For those who weren't around during the glorious summer of 1982, it might seem like a random, inconsequential date. But as Yahoo! pointed out in a recent slideshow, 1982 was a summer of classics. Fifteen cinematic beasts turn 30 this summer, and each one has stood the test of time. Some of them -- "Conan the Barbarian," "The Thing," "TRON" -- have recently been the subjects of remakes. But let's not dwell on the negative.

From Cameron Crowe's screenwriting breakthrough, "Fast Times at Ridgemont High," to Steven Spielberg's Oscar-winning masterpiece, "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial," the summer of 1982 was a great time to be alive. In addition to the films listed below, Yahoo!'s slideshow includes "The Road Warrior," "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan," "The Secret of Nimh," "The World According to Garp," "An Officer and a Gentleman," "Night Shift," and "Pink Floyd -- The Wall." All of them have aged extremely well.

Of course, if you think "Grease 2" or "Monty Python Live at the Hollywood Bowl" are more deserving of the title, feel free to write one of those in, too! You can see a full list of 1982 releases here. Yahoo! kept its selection to movies released between May and August, but we won't tell anyone if you bend it a bit. What do you think is the best movie classic from the summer of 1982?

Had to be Blade Runner, such a ground breaking movie... Almost voted for Fast Times, but that would have been dishonest...

ET would be in the top 3, and Poltergeist in the top ten.

Where are the ethnic movies? People who look and act like myself. Why are the hero's always whi__--..
The 1800--1900's where not a good time for blacks and movies so I tend to not watch..

We have a 30ish gal at church who is built like the woman who declared the house clean. She wears gigantic tall heels, and hubby and I frequently referenced that movie when we saw her. Daughter asked to see it (she was 11) so Pappa Netflixed it, she watched it and said she could understand why we all thought it was scary, but the graphics were so lame to her she thought it was cartoonish.

Funny how GREAT and frightening it was at the time, but this younger generation is so used to so much more til she didn't even bat an eye.
