What Is the Best Video Game of All Time?

This is kind of a broad topic, but since G4 dared to tackle a "Top 5 Video Games of All Time" poll (as if anyone could establish a satisfactory list) we thought we'd make things a little bit simpler. There are plenty of games out there with enough clout to secure an easy spot on the Top 5 -- "Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time," "Final Fantasy VII" -- but we're more interested in the open-ended answers.

We want to know what you think is the best game of all time is, whether it's a well-known entry like "NBA Jam" or "Skyrim," or an obscure title from your childhood, like "Buster Busts Loose" or "Jade Cocoon." From Don Daglow's "Dungeon" to "Diablo III," anything is fair game. We'll kick it off with a few canonical classics, but think hard before you answer. And feel free to post some footage if you'd like!

    This is a very difficult question to answer, as what constitutes as the "best" is an opinion. To me, being considered the best video game means that I can always come back to it and enjoy it. The best will stand the test of time and have far-reaching influence. There are many games that could qualify as being "the best" and what makes it to number one is not going to be the same for every person.

    The Legend of Zelda for NES.

    I feel like there should be an age requirement to answer this question. How can a game that came out less than a year ago be considered the best game of all time? It hasn't been around long enough to earn that title.

    There really can't be a best game of all time. What is "all time" actually based on? There are too many variables. So I picked Skyrim just because that is what I currently love to play.

    Are you kidding me? There are thousands of good games. You can't ask of all time! I love the FF games but 7 isn't my favorite. Out of this list its my pick

    I liked halo and half-life 2, but My favorite is "Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines"

    its an old computer game now, but it has 5 different endings and you can even make them have sex knowing the cheats.....just a dark scene with moans, lol

    Metal Gear Solid hands down. No other game I have played has such a memorable story line and character development.

    I'd say mass effect series has my favorite story and the most interesting characters though I have never played MGS.

    Duck Hunt! I used to get pissed off about not being able to shoot the ducks and/flying disks and try to shoot that cruel, snickering dog. His laughs and the condescending look on his face as he chuckled at my failure still haunt my dreams.

    I have played every game listed above, however I can not devote myself to any of them aside from Mario! When I was born, my father took me home (the first day they allowed him to take me out of the hospital, mind you) and sat my in his lap and put my hands on the controller and so, in a way, the first game I played was Mario.
    However, the first game I actually got /my/ hands onto was the original Halo, and I rocked at it! (I suck at these newer games, like Modern Warfare.)

    This sort of question is pretty much impossible to answer. I'm really tempted to say Portal 2 though. OoT is definitely one to consider though.
