The Golden Globe awards in Hollywood rank higher than People's Choice but lower than the Oscars- though they are known to be a predictor of Academy Award nods.

This year's Golden Globes Awards show, hosted by Ricky Gervais, takes place on Sunday January 17 at 8pm ET/5pm PT. Major nominees include Avatar, Up in the Air, Nine, Meryl Streep as a double best actress nominee for both Julie and Julia and It's Complicated, and TV nods for "Glee" "30 Rock" "House" and "Big Love."

Did your favorites make the nominations cut? Will Joan Rivers look even more like a deranged mutant alien on the red carpet? Is that even possible?

I should admit that Precious was aslo a great movie but for the Best motion picture i have to go with Avatar. Precious is really truthful and that happens in 90% lifes. I watced Precious and i though it was a worth watching with your friends. I liked the teacher, who help Precious to get through her abusion at home.

I don't get the fuss over Avatar, blue people give me the heebie-jeebies, but hey I haven't seen it. Precous had a break out cast, so KUDOS.

It's OK, My imagination along with a fantasy hope for finding intelligent life on other planets as well as our own , being able to communicate with other species, not too fanciful, finding a peaceful way of resolving conflict, where the military is concerned, and to continue to live in a country that supports independent film creativity remains my joy in life.

Followed closely by the hurt locker (not because it was great, but because it at least felt real. Avatar was just so epic that I can't not vote for it.

And for those who put New Moon....seriously? It would be a laughing stock and would get trampled. Its better than the first but still pretty bad

Inglorious Basterds

Love this movie...Love everything about it, the soundtrack, the shots, the plot, the actors... It's the perfect mix of a comedy, tragedy, adventure, action, and (un)historical.

*Places the Bear Jew on standby in case some pre-teen wanders in and attempts to nominate Twilight:New Moon*

I found Avatar boring and predictable while watching it. Then I starting hating it the more I thought about it. Cameron worked on that for over 15 years?!?!

I haven't seen Hurt Locker, but I've heard great things. The others I haven't even heard up.

That leaves a splendidly enjoyable and well done film: "Inglorious Basterds." While I don't like gruesome and graphic violence, I still enjoyed this Quintin Tarantino film.

I have seen all of these movies plus( avid movie goer)), and I think... with the overall sound, special effects, and story line... the verdict is Avatar.
