I hate it! There is no such thing as "pop-punk" to me. Punk is all about getting away from pop music to be different and stand up for what you believe in. I'm so sick of these Green Day fans who call Green Day Punk or "pop-punk." They are in no way whatsoever punk. Green Day is just one example but there are other bands.

    i love pop-punk music.
    pop-punk love pop-punk music pop-punk love pop-punk music

unlike the 70's, "pop-punk" music today and in the 90's was not classified by rebellion. it was/is classified as having a alternative-(rarely)emorock-pop sound, but pop and alternative dominating the sound mostly. as where punk has an emo-alt-rock sound.do you understand?

as for the bands ...its called a new generation of punk (sum 41, blink-182, all time low etc). they may be different from The Clash, but things change, man. things change. rock was originally elvis, then the beatles, then bon jovi, now its linkin park. why dont you complain about that rather than what is/isnt punk?

as for Green Day, they are kind of old-school punk (attitude wise. maybe music-wise, depends on the album) in a way. they rebeled against George Bush, war, etc in their music. that isnt rebellion? and BTW, green day wasnt pop-punk, except for a few songs from kerplunk! and dookie. maybe they were a mix of alternative and punk in the 90's, but not quite pop-punk most of the time. their music wasnt fast-paced enough.

not a bad poll, though. except the picture. NICE JOB GETTING THE LEAST FLATTERING PICTURE OFBLINK-182!

I love the music style of pop punk & the way it sounds but agree that it isn't Punk music per se but it is far away enough from the usual middle of the road generic pop music I have to put up with on a regular basic . I would just prefere it if it was refered to as alternative rock because to me that is what it is.

I believe the only reason GD is considered 'pop-punk' by some listeners is because a portion of the songs are catchy like Know your Enemy or 21 guns. But, if you look and listen carefully to the lyrics, you will realize how provocative it is. Know your Enemy is talking not really about social enemies, but the devils of the mind and the dark corners and pits of the world in my opinion. 21 guns is talking about a serious controversy, warfare. I think it points out wars of our time such as Iraq or Afganastan, not just something to sing because it will be played on kiss 108 (ewww). True GD fans and followers see the songs for what they are and realize the band's important points and where they stand in the problems of America.

Besides, using the vocabulary 'punk' to describe popular bands now is out of order. The only true punk was in the 80's and 90's was all about grunge such as Nirvanna and The Smashing pumpkins. The Pixies, The Cure, and even some of Black Sabbath's 80's music is punk, Green Day came out in 1991. They may be described as provactive and rebelious, and have punky songs but not classified in punk music, these days there is really no such thing. Alternative is the correct term for bands as GD and Blink etc

What is that supposed to mean? Her pop-punk gives instances of lives of teens. One of those girls from the best damn thing album isn't rebellious or punk but more of an alternative mix song. I believe it points out many teen girls and what they can be.

Avril Lavigne is a childish prick that needs to stay away from the music industry. Her first album was great, sure. Everything after that is shit, and she's an embarrassment to "punk".

Yes, she is "spunky and punky". In 2002, that was fine. Great, actually. But in 2010, when you still act like a teenager despite being 25 years old, it's just a kick in the balls to the music industry.

    They were a punk band.

But had pop harmonies and a pop producer.

I never thought of it that way! Pop-punk is kind of an oxymoron, since they're supposed to be like these opposing forces in music. But I think today it has just become more of the "sound" of punk, not so much the meaning, mixed with pop.
