Were You Happy on How Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Ended?

There is no doubt that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is one of my favourite books in the world but I wasn't quite happy on how it turned out. It was great but I would have loved it even more if it turned away from the "Happily Ever After" cliche.

Not even remotely happy with it. It seemed rushed and like she only added it so that people would stop asking her if she'd continue the story after Deathly Hallows.

I liked it. I understand why a lot of people aren't too happy about the ending, but after all the crap Harry's dealt with as a teen, don't you think it's about time he was happy? It was a small bit of fluff that we got to read after seven-hundred-something pages of fear, war, deaths, battles, etc. I wish it was a bit longer, however.

All of the dialogue between Harry and Voldemort was awesome, and I loved the "Aha!!" moment I got right before it was revealed that Harry had the Elder Wand. However, I think the duel between them should have been a bit more.... well, duelish. I mean Harry cast one spell and BAM Voldy's dead. I was kinda left thinking "Wait... we waited seven books and learned to really hate this guy and he dies with one blow?" It was too easy! And after all of the death's and everything I really expected this apocalyptic showdown between good and evil. The epilogue I think was unnecessary as well, but I can totally see J.K. Rowling thinking "ah hell, the kid needs a happily ever after". The epilogue was sweet despite the cliches.

I agree with Puck on this it seemed a little rushed. She could have done more as well. It also felt like she was killing and maiming just for shock value.

Yes and no. I was happy that it got a good and proper conculsion. But I was also sad because the series was now finished.

It was a bit too happy for me. Definitely should have been different, or at least not as happy. Maybe kill off a much much closer-to-us character. But, either way the rest of the book was so amazing I was easily willing to forgive the sappy epilogue.

I didn't like the epilogue, because like you said, it was very happily ever after, and I think some of it was unrealistic. I doubt harry, ron, hermione, ginny, neville, draco, and luna would have all survived when they were in the middle of all the action, and yet sirius, lupin, tonks, mad-eye moody, snape, dumbledore, etc would have died. they were much better wizards and the odds of all the main characters who were young surviving this when so many of the older and better wizards died. I loved the series so much, but I think JKR loved her characters so much that she chose who would die in the end based on people she could bear to lose, not who probably would have actually died. She's still one of my favorite authors though :)

also, I know Harry was Rowling's hero, and she believed him to be a truly good person, and that's how she wrote him, but I think he makes too many right decisions. We're human, we err, and harry doesn't usually. Even the best of people sometimes make bad decisions, but Harry doesn't make even one knowingly wrong choice off the top of my head, In the 5th book Harry had some thoughts of being "bad" but they were put into his head by Voldemort. and the times when things turn wrong for him, he was still trying to do the right thing. and at the end, when Vold...

If the man that killed your parents, destroyed your childhood and is trying to destroy the world around you throws a killing curse at you, you'd throw one back wouldn't you? In the 3rd book when he thinks Sirius betrayed his parents, he says he's going to kill him, yet he won't kill Voldemort? I know JKR wants to show that Harry won't stoop to that level, but I think no one can be a perfect hero and do everything right all the time. I still love the books unconditionally, and Rowling can't please all her fans. So if she's happy with it, I am too. :)

Ehhh . . . I didn't much like the epilogue. I think it sort of covered too much, if that makes sense. Without that, we as readers would've been able to allow our imaginations to wander more, instead of having everything set in stone. The final battle I enjoyed, though, even if three of my favorite characters did die within one chapter -_-

i'm happy, but i still think it was kinda abrupt. i wanted to know how george felt about fred's death, how the ministry made it up to harry about all the things that they did against him.. how things came back to normal, how ginny and harry got back together... but i guess if all that was in it, it wouldn't have turned up right? i think jk rowling knew what she was doing.. i mean she was happy with it, so i am too. it really was an awesome book.

I liked most of it.I think Harry deserved a Happily ever after, after all the things he's been through. He deservede a bit of a break.
I disagree completely with anyone who says Harry should have died.Yes the whole coming back to life thing was a little cheesy, but J.K.Rowling gives a great reason to why she did it.
She has always thought that people who had to rebuild their lives after war, where true hero's.
Harry was her hero and J.K.Rowling believed that he should have a chance to rebuild and settle down.
My only problem was the names of Harry's children.
But J.K.Rowling couldn't please all of her fans. She tried her best and that's what matters.
It was an amazing book despite what other people think.J.K.Rowling did a great job.
