When people reference "The Thing," it's only normal to think of the 1982 sci-fi flick directed by John Carpenter -- that or some obscure object that no one is taking the time to identify.

In any case, this is neither of those "things." In fact, it's a thing in its own. A sort of prequel to the original "The Thing" thing. OK, we're done. We promise.

But seriously: check out the trailer to "The Thing" prequel and let us know what you think. It's got us scratching our heads 10 times over.

I think the original old one was good but the remake with Kurt Russell rocked the house, that movie had some awesome special effects.

Judging from the trailer, this seems to be an fairly accurate copy (rip off) of John Carpenters "The Thing"...including the menacing bass line, only with a differnt cast and a chick playing the part of Kurt Russell.

actually i am maintaining a wait and see. will be hard to best John Carpenter's version. little known fact in the original "The Thing"(made in the 50s) the part of the monster was played by James Arness (Gunsmoke)

At first i thought of The Thing from fantastic 4
It IS CLOBBERING TIME.
Then i thought of the trailer i saw yesterday......
And then reading this i thought of the original and well no i don't think it will be as good as the original.
It WILL BE BETTER!!!!!!

Not really, mostly because the original had the right blend of simple story and good but simple execution. The second one was also good but not as good as the first. This one might also be good but not as good as the original.

I think with today's advances in CGI, it should stand a pretty good chance to match the 1982 version with Kurt Russell, which STILL makes my skin crawl, coincidentally!

idk, the first one was pretty good, but i think up to date special effects might at least make for a more entertaining picture

Actually, the 1982 "The Thing" was a remake of the 1951 film "The Thing From Another World" starring the late James Arness. This one's gonna be a prequal to the remake.

When I think of "The Thing" I don't think of to 1982 movie. I think of the 1951 "The Thing from another World".
