"The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind" was hailed as one of the greatest free-roaming games of its time, but graphics were Jurassic in 2002. "Oblivion," its 2006 sequel, was a huge upgrade in the visuals department, but it sacrificed some of the freedom and immensity of the first game.
Now that Bethesda perfected the balance in "Fallout 3," its post-nuclear sister series, all eyes are on "Skyrim." The newest installment in the "Elder Scrolls" series has been hovering over the gaming community, patiently awaiting its November 11 release date. Fans, of course, have been less patient.
Just a few days shy of its official release, Bethesda released a full two minute trailer for the game, complete with in-game footage, narrative, and showy cinematics. The aesthetic is right on -- a kind of "Lord of the Rings" meets Viking Age adventure -- and the graphics are as stunning as you'd expect from the makers of "Fallout 3."
Perhaps the biggest addition to the "Elder Scrolls" franchise will be the ability to fight dragons. Unfortunately, when IGN asked director Todd Howard if players would be able to ride dragons, he responded, "Not in the way you're asking." (He also said unicorns would be available as a $100 download. Grain of salt.)
