Was Nicki Minaj Right to Pull Out of Headlining Gig?

Nicki Minaj was all ready to headline at Hot 97's Summer Jam festival in New Jersey on Sunday until host Peter Rosenberg went on stage at the pre-show and said her single "Starships" isn't real hip hop. Within minutes, Lil Wayne announced he was pulling Minaj from the show. Minaj quickly confirmed on Twitter, saying she "won't ever go against Wayne's word."

Since the incident, Rosenberg has addressed the incident but refuses to apologize. The next day, he said on Hot 97, "I'm absolutely not apologizing ... I've been saying this for six months. I'm not going to change my stance because I'm at Summer Jam ... I'm disappointed that she felt like she couldn't get on stage. That was surprising to me. What she should have done was played the game. This is hip hop. She should have gone on that stage and made a movie." Do you think it was right for Nicki Minaj to pull out of the gig?

Oops, other people have their own opinion. Our bad nicki, for the record, statships ISN'T hiphop. But I thought that maybe your FANS opinions would matter, seeming as THEY were the ones who paid good money to see that big fake ass. She no longer has my resepct after abandoning her fans because of what ONE person said. Shame on lil Wayne too.

People came to see her play, and it's not really hip hop, more rap than anything.

If she is going to pose with her mouth like a blow-up doll then she should not sing.

She studies singing, and refuses to sing properly in order to sell. She looks absolutely ridiculous, with faake imitation white people's hair-she is BLACK, and that horrid dress. She looks like Lady Gaga gone to seed.

That is the reason Minaj is marketed. Minaj was developed to be the "Black" Lady Gaga. She is not an "artist". She is a packaged product. Like Dannon Yogurt and their competitors.

Well somebody should tell these marketers that their packaging is not working. We do not need to have a coloured equivalent for every white artist. Black people should be themselves, and stop copying white people.
There is only one Lady Gaga, and I as a black person am happy with that. She is white-end of. She is way more talented than Nicki Minaj, and can sing better too. Nicki Minaj should just go home.

Also, Minaj's keyboard player was arrested for the murder of an Irish exchange student while on tour in Japan.

Well she definitely makes the right connections, doesn't she? The music industry.... Ah, well, there is always the classic Led Zeppelin....

Incidentally, this is not about "coloured" equvalents for white artists. Lady Gaga is not music. It is a persona or a character. That's not real music. That is a production. A sideshow.

Starships sounds like another canned dance track to me. Hardly real hip hop. Regardless if she is incapable of making her own decisions Minaj, and Lil (tiny whiney) Wayne, dissed the fans by leaving the show. The other pulled acts included. They could have responded from the stage to Rosenberg's comment.

It IS another canned dance track! It bears no realtion to hip hop whatsoever! Ke$ha raps on her tracks-do we call that hip hop? The fact that she is black makes MTV class her as hip hop-they need to sort it out. Big time.

I'm suprised at Wayne. I can't necesarily blame Nicki for following her boss but how do they think they got to where they are today? The fans. Punishing them based on what one person had to say is dumb. Shows no class whatsoever and how arrogant people get once they get a little fame.

Well, "Starships" isn't real hip hop. It just sounds like a pop song with a bit of electronic mess thrown in. Lil Wayne needs to stop being an over-reactive diva, and Nicki needs to make her own decisions. Rosenberg shouldn't apologize; he did nothing wrong.

Because her fans paid good money to see her, but for her to ditch the festival its kind of selfish. Unless she has a good reason for her leaving :)

From what it sounds like she's not the one who pulled out. It was Little Wayne (she's a real independent woman). Oh and I really don't care what this person does. And is she supposed to be hot or something?

LOL! She is a fake ass, fake boob chick, who calls herself an independent woman and a saviour of female rap (over my dead body). Why don't we look up to army officers, doctors-people who actually DO something!

Can't handle the criticism of one person? Willing to ditch all of the fans that would be there because of that one person? Truth hurts?

    She's in the wrong business.

What about your fans, Nicki? They probably hated the fact that you weren't there. I would hate it if Mick Jagger suddenly decided to drop a show right in the middle of a performance. Not saying that he would do it.

But the host was rude. He had no right to go out and insult the entertainment. She should've proved him wrong and acted like the bigger person and go out and kick his ass with her performance.
