Was Lady Gaga's Fake Rolex Comment Offensive?

Lady Gaga angered Little Monsters all over Thailand on Thursday when she tweeted, "I just landed in Bangkok baby! Ready for 50,000 screaming Thai monsters. I wanna get lost in a lady market and buy fake Rolex." Though she made a similar comment about Hong Kong when she toured there, many Thai fans took it as an insult.

According to Yahoo!, Thai people wrote things like: "We are more civilized than you think," and "She came to our home, but instead of admiring us she insulted us." One fan even wrote, "Welcome to the land of counterfeit products, love. I'm sure there are plenty of fake Gaga CDs, too." Do you think Lady Gaga's comment was insensitive, or just a harmless remark?

A federal judge ruled that sections 1021 and 1022 of the 1012 NDAA, which nullify half of the Bill of Rights, are unconstitutional. Obama is fighting the ruling because he wants to have the right to detain Americans on U.S. soil indefinitely, without charge or trial.

The news media and government fill your heads with trivia while they turn the U.S. into a police state where you have no rights. Google: Operation Paperclip

Wake up America, it's later than you think.

Jokes are jokes. Unless intentionally meant to be offensive they should be taken as jokes. Maybe bad jokes but just jokes to be forgotten, not played out as news stories.

But who cares, she's a freak anyway. Who wears meat with no salad??? SERIOUSLY!!!
All that aside she's a person with her own opinions entitled to her own stupidities. I've been to thailand, and once you get away from the tourist areas and start meeting the people that make a country what it is, you'll learn respect for their culture and understand what they have to do to make a living wage. The people that sell the fake Rolexes wish they could do something a little more honest too, but they can't get any better or they would. Besides, as much money as she has, why's she buying a FAKE Rolex?

Well said Mark. I have been all over this world from China to Europe, and a Middle Eastern war in between. People are pretty much what others make of them. A cautious traveler can still be sincere, and sincere people will gravitate to that traveler.

Of course it was offensive, but the Thai people were pretty quick off the mark too, especially the Tweet that mentioned the "fake Gaga CDs." Now that one made me laugh. Let this be a lesson not to play the part of "The Ugly American" which makes the rest of us look bad. Fortunately, the world has become somewhat smaller since that 1958 novel and most people can distinguish honest and sincere American travelers -- from smug politicians, diplomats and celebreties.

By the way, I still have my $10 "fake" Rolex that I bought in China from somebody willing to hussle a little to turn a buck. I knew it was fake and worth a little more than what I paid for it. I'll keep it even though it doesn't work.

I feel like when it comes to being polite, the anti-PC police have overlooked something incredibly important. There is, in fact, such a thing as an offensive comment where all you have to do is say, "Whoops, sorry, didn't mean to offend", and all should be forgiven. Its twitter, it was fairly harmless, i'm sure she didn't mean to insult anyone, just say, "my bad" and it's all over.

Thailand sells fake watches. So does the US. We all sell knock-off sh*t and Thailand isn't exempt.
