Was Lady Gaga Right to End Target Deal Over Gay Rights?

What started out as a friendly business partnership between Lady Gaga and Target quickly turned into what Gaga called "one of the most intense conversations I've ever had in a business meeting."

Gaga, an adamant supporter of LGBT groups and gay rights, axed a deal with Target that would have allowed the store to carry an exclusive deluxe edition of "Born This Way," her upcoming album.

"Part of my deal with Target is that they have to start affiliating themselves with LGBT charity groups and begin to reform and make amends for the mistakes they've made in the past," Gaga explained to Billboard.

But E! reports that Target has refused to promise any donations, and in fact has come under fire from LGBT groups in recent months because of a donation that the company made to MN Forward, which supported a prominent anti-gay candidate for Minnesota governor last year.

Gaga's rep confirmed, "Lady Gaga and Target came to a mutual decision to end their overall exclusive partnership a few weeks ago."

Lady Gaga needs to stop pushing her agenda on the world. Live your life Gaga, stop telling everyone to change theirs to fit yours.

Not really. They are saying they don't want to give money to those particular organizations. Look, I love animals and the causes of animal shelters are dear to my heart. But I would never be forced into a deal to give large sums of money to PETA. They are corrupt, use questionable and borderline terroristic tactics and are not really what they say they are. Just like Gaga's fave charities probably.

Target essentially said they would rather turn down millions of dollars in profit than publicly affiliate themselves with LGBT advocacy groups. That's their right to turn it down, and say hey "we just don't agree with that". It's just going to cost them a lot of money, and some other company will probably strike a deal with her that's more LGBT friendly and they'll get gobs of cash for it.

Well either way, it's a win-win for Lady Gaga. If target refuses, that gets her press in the media which will no doubt increase her album sales.
If target does re-negotiate and strikes a compromise with her, that gets her good press in the media and increases her album sales.

If she feels that strongly about her convictions and Target wouldn't meet her business demands then she has every right to nix the deal. Plain and simple. Besides, it was mutually agred upon.

And therein lies the reason Target wouldn't knuckle under to her fascist demands. They would lose business over it.

I thought she was a Nazi. Now she's Fascist?

If ignorance were money, SH would be the world bank.

Because the Nazis sure weren't fascist. If ignorance were money and SH the world bank, based on the above comment alone you'd be the biggest depositor of the day.

I put yes because Target did the right thing.I wouldn't do any business with anyone that tried to black mail me.When did Target quit supporting the LGBT.A local Target store was ask to donate to a military charity. They were told to contact the home office. They received a form letter in the mail that stated that they only donated to the names on their list the LGBT was on the list the military was not and for that reason I do not shop at Target.

Some reason I may shop at Target more. She can do whatever she wants. Her music is crap. It is sad when I watch American Idol with my kids and those guys sing so much better than any of our supposed "stars".

What I wouldn't give to actually listen to some new good music.

TARGET MARKETING EXECUTIVE: Thanks, but no thanks. Go f*ck yourself.

Seriously. Look at the picture of Lady GagGag accompanying this article. Would YOU want that thang affiliated with YOUR business? And THAT is one of her more conservative outfits. I hate to tell this freak, but she still isn't big enough to demand political concessions from companies who want to work with her. [They need to have their heads examined.] Bono? Most assuredly. Lady GagGag? Call us back after you've been around for a couple of decades. THEN we'll talk.

Dumb question. Is she selling Target and all they bring to consumers or are they selling her music.Like many whom make it in the world of Arts they start believing their own memos and feel they need to have all consumers (or as many as they can muster) coming in line with their personal believes. 3 words GET OVER YOURSELF.
