Ke$ha’s latest single, “Die Young,” has been at the center of controversy in the wake of last week’s horrifying school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. On Tuesday, Ke$ha responded to the backlash, which has seen the song drop from No. 1 to No. 2 on the Billboard chart, and suffer an 11 percent drop in radio play.
Via her Twitter account, the singer first wrote "I understand," before explaining that she herself was unhappy with the title and lyrics of the song, further writing "I had my very own issue with ‘die young’ for this reason. I did NOT want to sing those lyrics and I was FORCED TO."

She added "I'm so so so sorry for anyone who has been effected by this tragedy and I understand why my song is now inappropriate. words cannot express." The single, from her new album "Warrior," was produced by Dr. Luke and Benny Blanco, though it’s unclear who she claims "forced" her to sing the lyrics, which include lyrics like "Let’s make the most of this night/Like we’re gonna die young."
"Die Young" isn’t the only single to be affected by the tragedy; Foster the People’s hit "Pumped Up Kicks," which has lyrics about a school shooting, has also been pulled from playlists. Do you think that Ke$ha was forced to sing the lyrics of "Die Young"?

dynasty.brunk 2012/12/20 23:59:13No+15the song die young is about partying it has absolutely nothing to do with dieing. listen to the words it's about partying and living life to the fullest.

I can also understand why she was 'forced' to sing it. Most mainstream artists do not write their own music, but only sing that which their producing company gives them. She's singing other peoples music, do the math.
And seeing as the song came out in September, why is she getting any crap about it at all? She can't control when her songs get aired, and she had no way of knowing that in 3 months a tragedy would occur on the other side of the country involving young kids.
I mean no one expected so many children to die all at once while at school by some nutcase gunman who was possible a satanist..
This guy at my work who is obsessed with astronomy was trying to tell me Adam Lanza was doing black magic.
You sound like an idiot.
My point is, just because a song is about dying young doesn't mean it should be pulled from the radio after a tragedy. Yes, the shootings were a tragedy, but these are just songs. Some are meant to just be about fun while others, such as POD's Youth of the Nation, are more serious.
Turn you into a girl next door? THE HORROR! (Heavy Sarcasm)
Why not listen to the words so that we're not causing a massive confusion going on here.
