Was Katie Holmes 'Cast' to Play Tom Cruise's Wife?

In 2001 Tom Cruise’s fairy tale romance with his second wife Nicole Kidman shattered like a clumsily mishandled glass slipper. Clearly Hollywood’s hottest leading man, and the Church of Scientology’s most famous face, couldn’t be single for long. Enter a new princess in 2005: Katie Holmes.

tom cruise katie holmes

The “Dawson’s Creek” cutie raced straight out of a broken engagement with actor Chris Klein and into the arms of her childhood dream man, Tom Cruise himself. Within months they were engaged, she was embracing Scientology and he was jumping up and down on Oprah’s couch. While their five year marriage was plagued with the requisite Hollywood gossip, no one was more surprised by last week’s headlines that the honeymoon was finally over than Cruise himself.

But apparently... he just didn’t read the script. Many believe that Holmes was cast in the part of “Mrs. Tom Cruise #3.” Some say that Cruise had implored Scientology head David Miscavige to find him a new bride and the casting call included unsuspecting candidates like Penelope Cruz, Sofia Vergara and Scarlett Johansson. Other rumors suggest that Holmes’ contract includes salary bumps based on the length of her term of service and her ability (and willingness) to produce heirs. If true, she managed to deliver Suri, which allegedly takes care of that clause. What do you think: Was Katie Holmes “cast” to play Tom Cruise’s wife?

I'm not much for celebrity gossip. But, I always thought Tom Cruise marrying Katie Holmes would be like Brad Pitt marrying Shanon Doherty. Just makes no sense.

I don't know, I don't care, but I would take her deal, several million for 5 years of marriage and having a baby? She was alone for most of that? DEAL!!!!!!!!

Good for her if she did;.

possibly but I wouldn't bet money on it. I thought the quick marriage of those two was kinda weird but never thought too much on it. I've believed a number of Hollywood marriages were arranged though. Money and status. When Hollywood couples get together and make babies they get more publicity and publicity comes with followers and for them followers equals millions of dollars. Money marrying money with extensive prenuptial agreements.

Ex-Scientologist: 'Holmes Was Picked For Cruise After Audition Process'

Hollywood star TOM CRUISE's marriage to KATIE HOLMES was set up by the Church of Scientology after a series of fake casting calls for actresses including JENNIFER GARNER and JESSICA ALBA failed to deliver a suitable wife, according to sensational new claims by a former Scientologist. Cruise and Holmes wed in a fairytale ceremony in Italy in 2006 after a whirlwind 20-month romance and have one-year-old daughter Suri together. But ex-Scientologist Marc Headley - who used to produce promotional films for the controversial religion - claims Holmes was set up with the Mission: Impossible star after he split from Penelope Cruz in 2004 after three years together. Headley alleges Scientology leader David Miscavige organised an audition process for potential wives disguised as a casting call for a new movie in which Cruise was the leading man. He tells British tabloid News of the World, "After that (splitting from Cruz), he started complaining to his best buddy David about his luck with girls. So Miscavige assigned a high-ranking official with the order: 'Find a wife for Tom Cruise.' "The official put out a casting call to female actresses, including Scientologists, saying, 'There's an upcoming Tom Cruise ...

So Miscavige assigned a high-ranking official with the order: 'Find a wife for Tom Cruise.' "The official put out a casting call to female actresses, including Scientologists, saying, 'There's an upcoming Tom Cruise movie you might get a part in. Come for an audition.' But in the end no movie was made. They had to be single, they had to be pretty and in their 20s. "First they rounded up Scientologist actresses like Erica Christensen, Erica Howard and Sofia Milos. But they were all rejected." The unnamed official then tried to lure Electra star Garner - who had just started dating Ben Affleck at the time - with the beauty ranked top of the priority list, before Holmes was spotted gushing about Cruise and called to Los Angeles to meet the actor. Headley adds, "Then... they went for Jennifer Garner, Scarlett Johansson and Jessica Alba, in that order. They came up with the same plan. Jennifer and Jessica didn't bite but Scarlett took the bait and came in for an audition. When she arrived at the audition address and found out it was the Scientology Center in Hollywood she freaked out and didn't do a tape... "So they worked the audition tape on Katie, got her to L.A. and introduced her to Tom. The moment he meets her, he's enthralled with her and he told Miscavige later, 'I knew immediately she was the one.'"

It's whacky but believable. It will eventually get to the point where they can't keep a lid on things any more .... I hope she spills the beans but I imagine her contract covers everything.

Whoever thinks these things up should be writing for the Enquirer or The Star. I think the author of this poll and those who would even consider that concept are actually adherants to a new religion of their own:

I think it is possible given the circumstances and responses of other actresses they supposedly tried to groom. Also, it is rather odd that Katie gave the cookie cutter response of liking scientology but doesn't want her daughter apart of it...it sounds like a ploy.

Yes! And she played the role very well for as long as she could take it. I remember her scripted response oh so well."I used to dream that on my wedding day,I was getting married to Tom Cruise." He had tried to make a move on Kate Bosworth prior to setting his sights on Holmes, but Bosworth wasn't having any of it.

Marriage is always a contract but most of us don't see it that way because we are blinded by love! I have to got to court to get a divorce or or be represented by a lawyer, see a judge and sign paperwork.

I think they were in love or at least had enough affection to start out. They now have differences about Suri is raised...therefore off to divorce court.
However, Cruise has more to lose if he goes to open court with Katie. She will be under oath and have to tell the truth about her reasons for leaving.

Just go your separate ways Tom and get liberal visiting rights!!
  • Jon PJ 2012/07/28 22:00:45
    Jon
It is a little more complicated than just having differences about how a child is raised when one of the spouses is a Scientologist. He needs supervised visiting rights with bodyguards and a nanny chosen by Katie.
