Was Gene Hackman a good actor?

Jerry 2012/01/12 03:25:56
I think he was a really good actor. He was Tough in most of his movie's & tough in real life, it's too bad he retired but 81 yrs old probably makes it hard to put put into acting.

I think it's a personal thing. Betty White is 90, Mickey Rooney is 92. Nicholson is climbing through his 70s. Sean Connery retired after the terrible 'The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen' in 2003. He recently resurfaced ringing the NYSE bell earlier this month. Hackman was considered for a role in Alexander Payne's upcoming "Last Vegas," but turned it down to remain retired. But he was a great actor and a winner of two Academy Awards.

Pretty good I think, and got better as he got older. Thought he was awesome in "Unforgiven" and "Crimson Tide"

the first movie I saw him in I hate him, cause I was too young to understand it was just a movie, then I seen him in Mississippi Burning & had a completely different opinion on him. He's an Icon in my eyes & plays very good villains.

That was a bit of an odd movie for me as I quite enjoyed it in spite of not really being a fan of most of the cast members. Gene definitely stole the show in that one

yeah I would say so, when I was younger I didn't know these were roles these actors were playing I thought they were really like that & I didn't like Gene Hackman at the time cause "The Quick And The Dead" was the first movie I ever saw him in.

LOL..... I can remember thinking along those lines

I think it is a sign of an actor's skills if they can make you truly hate the character

lol & I did hate his character, Brad Douif the Sheriff's Deputy in Mississippi Burning is so good at his role in that movie I almost can't believe how nice he is in real life.

His last theatrically released movie was actually "Welcome to Mooseport" (2004). The 'Superman' in question was the Director's (Donner) Cut of 'Superman 2.'
