Volleyball: can you really use your foot instead of your hands to save it from going out of bounds? not a trick question.

recently on the news, the olympic games replays showed a womens volleyball player making a, "soccer" kick while going out of bounds....had never heard of the rule, and no one challenged.....is that something new in Volleyball? (to be able to kick the ball with your foot?). see photo below on my last answer.reply -
the reason why im asking, is because i saw a video of a woman making an incredible futbol play in a volleyball game.......? ive never seen anyone do that in a volleyball game.....is it new? 2012.
