But as Kara said, Big Mike’s take on the song was just so perfectly “relevant,” as America literally saw live footage of the birth of his child just weeks ago. Lines like “I’ll stand outside this woman’s work” were especially poignant given that we all know that Big Mike was trying out for “American Idol” while his wife was in the delivery room.
We’re sure Kara wasn’t the only person brought to tears by the performance … and if Big Mike’s wife was at all upset that he missed their daughter’s birth, he more than made up for it on Wednesday night. Let’s just say that there was Big Mike, and there was the rest of the show.
Big Mike the one to beat, at least this week. As Simon said, he wasn’t just the best of the night, but the best of all the live shows so far. Bravo.

+2I don't get the hype. He's a decent singer but just a gifted karaoke singer IMO. Nice falsetto control and nice presentation, but his voice and range are very ordinary. Can anyone say Taylor Hicks? Good guy, pleasant vocals, but nothing special.reply - mistyblew March 14, 2010 19:11:34

+3Big Mike's a good karaoke singer. Anyone thinking that performance was great needs to listen to Maxwell's version then you would see the difference in an amateur and a pro. Big MIke is ok but not even a Ruben.reply - ROSA March 12, 2010 17:41:12
