I met my fiancee online, and it's a great relationship - we have many things in common and are able to talk because it was really all we did for a big part of the start of our relationship. I don't think it's for everyone - but people do stupid stuff no matter where you are - online or not.

There are many unusual ways couples meet.

Believe it or not i met my wife when i was on vacation, at Comic Con, I lived in New York She Lived In San Diego, and when i had to come home we kept in contact, and did the long distance thing for about 2 years and i Moved to San Diego and a few years after that we got married and the rest is history. So it works. Sometimes the person for you isn't right next door.

I don't think it's a good idea because it's obvious that they've only got the game in common - I am not against internet dating as a whole though, I've done it several times myself, but I do think the internet makes people rush into things thoughtlessly and once together it's hard for both individuals to find common ground much else than the internet. I've had this problem several times. Another concerning thing is, relationships that start on the internet, usually end up living together but separate lives on the internet - which is something that's happening in my relationship and lots of other people I know. Kids being raised by plugged in parents, I think that's a serious issue in today's societies.

In this instance it even stated that they'd known each other for *five* years - they must have more in common than just the game, and that is hardly rushed- many couples move much faster who meet face to face. I agree with the issue with raising kids - but the issue is more of people not being responsible, and I don't see how that relates.

I know from experience that you can get very close to a person online, sometimes closer quicker than in person since you're having more actual conversations as opposed to making small talk while watching movies, eating, making out, etc. You just have to make sure that person isn't lying about something important, like their gender or marital status! But obviously that wasn't a problem here. Good for them.
