VEGETARIANS AND VEGANS: If it was discovered that plants feel pain and have emotions too, would you continue not eating meat, or would you go back to eating meat?

Your friendly neighborhood stalker December 05, 2009 23:05:10
I'd still be a vegetarian/vegan.
I'd go back to eating meat. Everything feels pain anyway.

I like easy prey. Cows and such can run away, but plants have to wait hopelessly for me to rip them out of the ground. mmwwwaaahhhhh hahahaha

If they killed the plants humanely, then I would continue to be a vegetarian.

Since it has been shown that plants react to people...ie: the aura experiment, then they already have a primitive ability to 'sense'. I always liked that Twilight Zone episode where the dieter gets glasses that will aid her in losing weight...once on, she could 'see' the vegetables pleading not to be eaten...then she couldn't get the glasses off.

I've been a vegetarian for a third of my life. At this point, not eating meat has jus become a habit for me. I didn't become a vegetarian to protect the animals, I'm not naive, I know that people aren't going to stop killing cows just because I don't eat them. So, yeah, I'd still be vegetarian. The plant may hurt a bit, but you don't have to kill most plants to get their vegetables, and I can't photosynthesize.

If I WAS vegetarian or a vegan (but seriously why the hell do people be vegans, thats just sorta dumb and actually sorta unhealthy) I would probably still be one.
But there is no way I could live without burgers or steak, so about that...Yeah, I'm very aware of the horrible mistreatment of animals, but there's not much I can do, besides being a vegetarian. And please people, do not preach to me about things I can still do. Don't do it. I won't be swayed.

So I eat meat, and vegetables. And don't plan on changing that anytime soon. But as I said, I would stay the same if I were a vegetarian even if plants do have feelings.

I bet some super duper insane crazy people are gunna not eat plants now too. I wouldn't be surprised.

I'm not a Vegetarian because of the killing of animals. In my point of view that is a part of nature and ok....but I think it's wrong how animals are treated before they get killed. They have to suffer a terrible life and that is just not right.

If you want to find out about that, read The Secret Life of Plants. I can't remember the author but it shows the experiments done to demonstrate plant to plant communication and the pheromes that are given off for attraction and repellant etc. It is facinating, but when I first read it, I thought that would leave Paul McCartney with nothing to do but drink water and so much for his only eating things that don't have a face!

It makes my reasoning easier. I'm not a vegetarian because i love animals, I'm a vegetarian because I hate vegetables. So scream, salad, fear my spork!

I'm not a vegetarian and I look at it this way. Do you think that while the bear is chewing off your leg he's thinking, "Oh I shouldn't eat this since it has feelings?" No, the bear doesn't give a damn about your feelings.

True, the bear is only surviving, however we have much more highly developed brains than bears. Our highly developed brains are supposed to carry with it a higher state of consciousness and therefore compassion, which is why we dont eat our young. Well, most of us dont anyway.
We werent built with razor sharp teeth and claws, predator strength, and the digestive sytem of carniviores. Otherwise I would be tearing into a raw leg no problem.
