Sad news today ... Usher's 11-year-old stepson has been declared brain dead following an accident on Friday in which he was struck by a jet ski, TMZ reports. Kyle Glover is the biological son of Usher's estranged wife Tameka Foster ... wait for the :41 mark in the video below for more on how Usher is helping Tameka get through the tragedy.

Kyle (third from the left in the photo below) was struck in the head by a passing jet ski while riding on an inner tube on Lake Lanier in Atlanta, TMZ reports. Kyle's 15-year-old female friend was also seriously injured, according to reports. They were both being pulled in the inner tube by a boat when a 38-year-old man allegedly struck them with his jet ski. Tubing seems like a harmless enough activity, but do you think it's too dangerous for minors? Or was Kyle just in the wrong place at the wrong time?

This was just a terrible accident. The kid wasn't participating in any sport. Who ever was pulling him around in a tube while there were jet skies and other boats around probably didn't have much sense but, it's a little to late to think about that now.

Kids this young are unable to think for themselves, someone has to be the adult in this situation.

Walking to the mail box is risky. If I had a child now no way would I let him jet ski or go boating on Lake Lanier. People do not understand how over crowded it is with watercraft on that lake. I lived close to it for 13 years so I know.

As sad as this situation is, it could just as easily happen in a car, on a bicycle, in the swimming pool, or crossing the street.

With proper supervision and training, the risk can be mitigated. You can't lock a kid up forever. As I used to say to my mom, "You can be killed every-time you walk out the door. You take that risk because you believe what's outside is worth it."

This was not a "risky sport". This is a fun activity done millions of times a day across America in lakes, ponds, oceans and such. RARELY does an accident happen, when it does it is a tragedy, but ONLY because it was a famous persons former step son is this even news.

Geez, we can't wrap them in bubble wrap and keep them from having any fun,.

My only question is WHY did the mom have to take a private jet to get there? Why wan't she WITH her kid??????

That's awful. I don't consider being pulled by a jetski to be a risky sport. The man who hit them is at fault.

Well, maybe not. The driver pulling the kid may have made a sudden manuever that the other jet ski couldn't forsee.

The police have not charged him yet, but they have been in contact with him and all of the witnesses.

Since the issue of living has a 100% mortality rate, all life needs to be outlawed. If there is no life, there is no death or risk thereof.

Besides, how many kids are killed and injured in car accidents? You can't hide in a cave all your life.

Uhhhhhhhhh. . . . . Are you assuming riding a jet ski a risky sport? I live where the accident happened. He was struck by a jet ski. Many times people get on a jet ski and haven't a clue how to operate one. Speed and ignorance make for a dangerous cocktail on water!

I say no, but I have really mixed feelings about it. I don't know if their is a completely safe sport. Where do we draw the line?
In the case of Kyle Glover, it sounds like he was in a dangerous position by being pulled by an inner tube in a boat. An inner tube behind a boat would not be very visible. I wouldn't have wanted my child in that situation. I would think standing up on skis behind the boat would have been safer.

I'm out on the lake all the time: you spot tubes before skis because tubes are usually brightly coloured while skiers are smaller despite being taller, and often wearing a dark-coloured wetsuit. Furthermore, other boaters and jetskiers should NOT be close enough to hit a tuber whether they see them or not. Tubers are pulled around 50-65 feet behind, and the only situations where you should be that close to other boaters is in a no-wake zone, at a stop, or if you're towing the other boat-- none are situations which a tuber would be out.

    that was a freak accident
extreme sports are 'extreme' for a reason, but that doesn't mean kids shouldn't do them, it just means that parents should understand the risks associated with them.

Tubing is fun, however, the asshat on the jet ski should be charged with something!

Every sport is dangerous in its' own way. Here in Florida a couple of months ago a 12 year old boy died in a crash, he was driving a race car on the track......alone. He crashed into a brick wall. Now, in a situation like that I thought what kind of parent lets their child do that? Frankly, I was appalled.

No, this was a freak accident. I am so sorry to hear of their loss. I do want everyone who has kids to make sure they get the best physicals if they are playing sports. I took my grandson for his physical and the doctor sent him to a cardiologist because of his ekg and they found an aneurysm. Dont take any chances just because you want your child in sports.

Tubing is not dangerous. There is only one thing that could injure you, and that's other boaters. If your driver does his/her part and doesn't drag you too close to other boaters, then the chances of being hit by another boat are astronomical! It's more likely for you to get hit by a drunk driver when crossing the street. I hear of accidents out on the lake all the time. On any one day, there are a couple hundred tubers and water-skiers out there and just as many jet skis, yet this is the first time I've heard of somebody being fatally injured on one.

It's a bit like asking if people should drive, fly, sail...

Should we stop living life bc there is a risk of getting cancer? Wrecking? Being shot? Stroking out? Drowning? I mean....where does it end? Bubble-living will and can kill a person in a slow and torturous way, too.

I did crazy things on my bicycle.Fell on my butt a few times, but Mommy did not come out & forbid me from riding til I was 18. Nope got some Bactine & a Band Aid.

But If he was riding the jet ski alone,if that was the case, Kids of that age should not be riding the skis alone.Need an adult.

He wasn't riding a jet ski. He was riding an inner tube being dragged behind a boat that had a qualified driver and a spotter watching him.

how is the accident related to the recreational activity, aside that it took place in the water. Usher's step kid could have been injured just swimming and having the jet ski struck him. Should kids be forbidden of swimming? No, it's ridiculous. Accidents happen, but that's what they are, accidents. Doesn't make that activity itself dangerous.

I am not advocating for deliberately known dangerous risks, however, life is a risk. One should not let the fear of dying keep them from actually living. Even if one never takes a deliberate risk in life, death comes when one least expects it. It can't be avoided. I hope his mother does not blame herself for the accident. It isn't her fault, she just wanted her child to have a fun holiday. Hopefully, he died happy.
