Uggie the Acting Dog Gets a Book Deal: Sweet or Silly?

You might know Uggie from his roles in "Mr. Fix It," "Water for Elephants," and "The Artist." For the latter role, fans campaigned to have the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences grant the 10-year-old an honorary Oscar for his work. Turns out, they were barking up the wrong tree. Uggie was denied by the AMPAS, and by BAFTA. Why? Because Uggie is a dog. A Jack Russell Terrier, to be more specific. But his lack of opposable thumbs didn't stop him from getting a book deal.

According to The Washington Post, Uggie recently sold his memoir, "Uggie: My Story," to Gallery Books, a division of Simon & Schuster. He typed up the original manuscript himself on a continuous 120-foot scroll, in three weeks, while hopped up on Beggin' Strips... Just kidding. It's being "ghost written" by Wendy Holden, who also worked on memoirs by actress Goldie Hawn, World War II spy Marthe Cohn, and former Eagles guitarist Don Felder. "Uggie: My Story" is due out this October. Do you think the idea is sweet or silly?

What's wrong with it? It's not like there's never been a story written about dogs. Kids like that kind of stuff.

Why not. Animals are pretty smart, cute and this doggie deserves some star service...with headlines. And I'm sure children will love the story.

Uggie may have needed people to train him, but he's worked hard on everything he's done. He deserves the recognition and respect any human would get, and I'm sure he has an interesting story. And to those who say we anthropomorphize him, none of us are inside his head. We do not know how human-like his thinking might be.

There's too much anthropomorphization going on in this article. Stop referring to Uggie when it's his owner that's doing all the deals.

    He'll probably have a ghostwriter.
Few celebrities actually author their own books nowadays.

On important questions, I'll read the whole description before commenting.
On goofy ones like these, I often don't bother because the details rarely matter. :)

If you take Uggie and Obama and put them in your trunk of a car for one minute on a hot day as the global warming people say is coming like over 100 degrees or so; only lets put then in for thirty seconds, do not want the SPCA on this cast... Any way, put them in the trunk and after 30 seconds take them out, see who would be glad to see you (lick your hand) and who would cuss you out and send you to Afghanistan!
