Tupac Performs at Coachella as Hologram: Epic or Bizarre?

The Japanese have been touring holographic pop stars for years now, but it's still a relatively odd idea in America. But Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg might have found a way to break it into the mainstream. The hip-hop duo played a hologram of the late Tupac Shakur performing "Hail Mary" and "2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted" during their Coachella set on Sunday, and it looked unbelievably real.

Nick Smith, president of the company that created the hologram, said, "We worked with Dr. Dre on this and it was Dre's vision to bring this back to life. It was his idea from the very beginning and we worked with him and his camp to utilize the technology to make it come to life." He wasn't allowed to get into the details, but hinted, "You can take [someone's] likenesses and voice and ... take people that haven't done concerts before or perform music they haven't sung and digitally recreate it." That would explain how they got Tupac to say, "What up, Coachella?" Watch the entire performance here.

I mean, the job they did is amazing...but it's freaky. I swear, this man has worked more and harder since he's been dead than he did while alive. That's freaky, too.

It's hard for me to decide...I saw the video and thought, "Wow, I mean...they did an amazing job. It's like he was actually there." Now, if I were to have attended that concert...I would have been upset because reality is, he's not alive anymore. Sooooo....hmmmm....ish bizzarre.

I personally love a lot of vocaloid songs (not by hatsune miku but other vocaloids), but I wouldn't spend a lot of money to watch them in concert.

Not everyone is a fan of Vocaloid, I loved it from the first moment. (World is Mine and Triple Baka XD) Anyway the beauty of Vocaloid is that, you can make her sing whatever you like. It's just that the most popular Eg Melt were of the genre produced by the company. So they set the tone, but I've seen classical opera tracks sung by miku, they were great XD

I'd love to have a program where you can make a voice sing anything, but the voices always sound horrible :( That's why I don't like Vocaloid

I wouldn't exactly say ALWAYS... Alot do sound bad now, considering anyone can have access to these programs but others who are really good at the vocaloid program make it sound great. It's just not as common to find the great sounding ones.

All the ones I've listened to sound robotic.

Actually as long as you fiddle with the settings, I've had people not being able to tell the difference. It's all down to what settings you use. Admittedly Vocaloid could be much better, it has its limits, but there's not that much different in comparison to say, ten years ago.
