False. This rumor has been debunked. There is a shot right after the Wicked Witch appears on the Yellow Brick Road and Dorothy, the Tin man, the Scarecrow and the Cowardly Lion all start down the road again. In the background of the set there is what appears to be a body swinging from a tree. But it was not so. It was actually one of several large exotic birds that were brought on set for the filming. It happened to spread it's wings at that moment and created an image that looked like a small body swinging from a tree.
Also, one of the last of the munchkins from the movie has stated that the group of little people were actually quite tightly knit and if there had been a suicide they would have noticed it.

Yeah theres a video where it looks like maybe wings poking from behind a tree, but theres also videos where there is unmistakably, undeniably a body with a head and feet and all other kinds of body parts, swinging from a rope by the neck

On a smaller screen the image isn't very visible. Leaving you to wonder what it is. So with the rumor flying about that suddenly comes to mind.

However on a larger screen, you can tell that it is a bird of some sort.

    For whatever it is worth.
I was in line a the Fry's Grocery Store a few months ago, and,in front of me was one of the "Original Munchkins"!
She was a sunflower girl in the movie.
She is in her late 80's,and was a lot of fun to talk to!!!

    Actually both!
She also had that high pitched squeaky voice!
She was very young when they made the movie and I believe she is in her mid-to late 80's now!!

False - the myth has been debunked in a special about movie myths. Along with the lady in Golden Finger dying.

The props used back then wouldn't have supported the weight. I just don't think that rumor can be true.

just because you see the shadow doesn't mean they hung themself from the prop they could have used something on the cealing and we don't know how heavy they are we had watched the movie in history and my teacher had showed me the shadow it was weird

They could have hooked something up to the ceiling, yes, but I saw the clip too, and the shadow didn't seem distinct enough to be a person. Anything's possible though I suppose.

I don't think it's true. I think it was a rumor that was started and spread like wildfire, because it was an interesting thought. The film quality was not very good back then, and there were so many random props, that one of them was bound to show up where it shouldn't. Plus, the thing that really busts this rumor is the fact that many of the trees were cardboard or a similar very light substance that never would have withstood the weight of a human body. So it wasn't even possible really.
