For over 20 years, when a Batman movie was due to hit theaters, everyone knew that it would be event -- and “The Dark Knight Rises” just might have been the most anticipated flick of them all. But after Friday morning’s tragic event in Aurora, Colorado, it seems like a perhaps unshakable black cloud might hang over the final installment of Christopher Nolan’s trilogy.

The alleged masked gunman, 24-year-old James Holmes, killed 12 and injured many more. And as the details continue to unfold, no doubt the film itself will come under considerable scrutiny. One eyewitness on the “Today” show, said that she first thought the shooter was part of the spectacle of Thursday night’s midnight show -- just another guy in a costume, like so many others in the theater.
In an eerie similarity, the “Dark Knight’s” villain Bane leads a gang of bad guys into a football stadium in a bullet and explosive fueled rampage. Chaos ensues in a public space. Not the first time that’s the case in any action movie, let alone one that stars the Caped Crusader.
Warner Bros., the studio behind the summer blockbuster, has canceled tonight’s premiere in Paris. And according to breaking news, they’re considering canceling weekend screenings of the film. The New York Police Department has announced that they’ll be amping up security at theaters showing the “Dark Knight Rises.” And odds are a few moviegoers will be deterred from rushing out to see the film at a cineplex near them any time soon. The pall that this tragedy cast might just spell doom for “The Dark Knight Rises.” What do you think: Will the movie now be cursed?

I plan to go see the movie when my paycheck arrives. Looks like it'll be awesome! It's sad what happened, but part of life is death, and part of life is moving forward.
The sad thing, is everyone is talking about gun controls, and yet, it's gun control that prevented these movie goers from having a chance to defend themselves. They were quite literally, sitting ducks. It you look at crime rates in areas with proper carry permits and high numbers of people with carry permits... you see less crime.
I'm sad that people were hurt and killed, but there are people out there who I KNOW will use this to attack guns...
That moron killed and hurt those people.
And again... No, it does not taint the movie in my opinion.
It is sad to see that it happened the way that it happened.
because of one psychopath you throwing a damn-good movie to the trash?
anyway, don't forget that at the same hour the movie was shown in almost any country on the world... the attack was at colorado.... the only attack....
there are more injuries on the rodes every year, but we don't say our rodes and cars are cursed....
Did you all hear about the copy cat in NH?
Maine Man Brought Gun to ‘Dark Knight’
A man pulled over for speeding in Maine Sunday told police that he brought a loaded gun into a showing of The Dark Knight Rises Saturday night, just one day after the deadly shootings at a midnight screening of the Batman film in Colorado. An arsenal of weapons and press clippings about the Colorado massacre were found in the suspect’s car. Timothy Courtois, 49, was stopped by Maine State Police after speeding at 112 mph in his Ford Mustang. He told police he was on his way to Derry, New Hampshire, where he planned to shoot a former employer.

but I think just for precautions no one should be dressed up. who cares if you show up as batman or not. or at least no masks. just to be careful. there are a lot of crazy people in the world
she survived, but I think that it still is just coincidence. The film isn't cursed. We can't possibly think to blame a movie for the sick actions of some humans.
