Very sad news coming out of Hollywood: "Top Gun" director Tony Scott died Sunday after jumping from a Los Angeles bridge, authorities said -- and the death is being investigated as a suicide. The married father of two was 68 years old.

"I can confirm that Tony Scott has passed away. The family asks that their privacy is respected at this time," Scott's spokesman, Simon Halls, said in a statement, according to The Associated Press.

Scott jumped from the Vincent Thomas Bridge spanning San Pedro and Terminal Island in Los Angeles Harbor, according to police. A suicide note was later found at his office, The Los Angeles Times reports.

The director, who was born in England, was "Alien" director Ridley Scott's younger brother. Among his action-packed films, Scott directed "Days of Thunder," "Beverly Hills Cop II" and, most recently, "Unstoppable," starring Denzel Washington. He was married to actress Donna Scott, with whom he had twin sons.

not looking to start an argument here, but in my opinion it's not really any of our business as to why he took his life, and a bit weird to talk about it on over the internet. Maybe you could ask that question through your SH account?

nor am i......just is poor timing. The man just recently died by tragic means - and you're more interested in his movies. Maybe if you'd mentioned remorse at the loss it would have been easier to swallow. Personally i would never write or 'ask' ANY questions on such a sensitive subject - so you can forget [me] doing a blog on the subject..

Don't know the intent of the author of this question but it COULD be seen as a means to remember the man's contributions to the film industry. That is how I chose to read it and why I answered it.

There were plenty of Whitney Houston questions right after her death, just for example.

Well certainly you are entitled to view and answer any way you choose to interpret - but as 'showy' and 'shallow' as most of the questions posed ARE by 'SodaHead Slideshows' and the like - i think I took it the way it was intended, as a cheap attempt to get headlined, leader board noticed, and RAVES - as that is how it was presented.

Any way it's viewed - it is still tasteless and inconsiderate of the dead and their families to push someones accomplishments ahead of the VERY recent loss - especially to the public.

Regarding WH - yes you're right there WERE plenty of questions 'right after' her death.....MOST were
'who, what, where, WHY she died......followed as the days progressed, by
her accomplishments - that's just common courtesy and respect.

Well, you are right, this is an opinion site and as such we're all entitled to our opinions on these questions. Personally I find the questions probing the details of someone's death more offensive.

I DO think the particular wording used in this question could have been seriously improved upon.
