After more than five years of marriage, superstar couple Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are filing for divorce. While Cruise, 49, is no stranger to divorce -- this will be his third after Mimi Rogers and Nicole Kidman -- Holmes, 33, will be losing her first marriage. The couple has one kid together, 6-year-old Suri Cruise.

Holmes' attorney told People, "This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family. Katie's primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter's best interest." No other information is available, and they'd probably like to keep it that way. It's kind of amazing they were able to avoid break-up rumors for this long. But we're sure some more details will come to light. Are you surprised about the Katie Homes / Tom Cruise split? Or do you think it's a part of the gig when you become a celeb?

    Nope. More money, more choices.

Besides, I'm still waiting for Tom Cruise to get together with John Travolta. I think they'd make a great couple.

They get married for publicity. They don't care about the vows they take. Thank God she finally got away from that control Freak!!

But in this case specifically... it's harder to stay with a controlling, brain-washed weirdo who wants you and your child to join his dangerous cult.

They are just people like the rest of us, just because they have a lot of money and I guess in a lot of ways seem to think of themselves as better than the average person.... they shouldn't because the average persons make them who they are!

Celebrities are not immune to marrying for the wrong reasons. The world knew more about Tom Cruise and the controlling cult of Scientology than apparently Katie did, or did she know from the beginning and that is why a contract was needed with bonuses involved...follow the money!

I have to imagine it is. Having most (if not all) of your life publicized and scrutinized day in and day out has to be very overwhelming to anyone. I can only imagine what kind of strain that would put on any marriage.

I figured this marriage wouldn't last longer than it did. Tom is to much into his religion and not the woman of his life.

When you've got two giant egos vying for supremecy you've got a problem especially when one of them has probably got a little man syndrome going against him. Am I the only one seeing them side by side thinking that girl could clean his clock?.

Especially when they are both in the same racket. Their egos can get pretty touchy if they are highly competitive.

Looks like it, but there are some pretty strong Hollywood marriages past and present. I don' t think Cruise's problem is the usual Hollywood stuff, though, I think it's his Scientology connections. But that's just a hunch on my part. In any event, stars do have pressures on them that we common folks don't, but that's what marriages are supposed to be all about, regardless of the profession of the partners. But I also think that there is a certain type of "character" that lots of Hollywood stars have to have in order to be good at what they do and handle all the glitz and glory and whatnot, so that may make them a little harder to live with.

I think so because there is alot of talk about a clash of schedules with married actors where they don't spend enough time together. It's a vulnerable time.

There are two things that enter into it. One is the ego thing. Both are trying to advance their own careers, and the other is the fact both are busy and aren'taround each ther long enough to develop an intimate relationship.

I think it must be; not only are there a lot of pressures on both unrelated to their personal lives, but I'm sure some of them hear, as they walk by members of the opposite sex, "Man, I'd like to get with that!" or something similar.

You mean the prima donnas. They all have such fat egos and more importantly they have fat heads to go with their fat bank accounts. Who really gives a damn about the losers. Lets highlight the couples that have stayed married for a long time thru thick and thin. We're certainly not stars but we'll celebrate our 57th anniversary this year. Not a record but a lasting relationship.

It's hard for anyone to be married in today's world! People have way too high of expectations of the other person. I think all of these "chick flicks" where evey man in every movie is a Doctor, Lawyer, or just born wealthy really distorts the real world for many girls minds out there. They grow up expecting so much out of men while the real man of their dreams that would really make them happy probably is a janitor for a living, but they will not give him the time or day because they have been trained from birth to be all about status! I think people need to stop thinking the grass is always greener on the other side. It's not most of the time. Lower your expectations, and stop watching all the brain washing love shows out there!

Don't try to be someone or something that you are not. Be normal and honest if that is allowed in the world of today.
