After five years of marriage, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are getting a divorce, PEOPLE has learned exclusively.


"This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her
family," says Holmes's attorney Jonathan Wolfe. "Katie's primary concern
remains, as it always has been, her daughter's best interest."


The Rock of Ages star, 49, wed actress Holmes, 33, in an Italian castle in November 2006. They have daughter Suri, 6.

This was Holmes's first marriage and the third for Cruise, who previously was married to the actresses Nicole Kidman, with whom he has two children

    He tried to sell me that Scientology stuff on the streets of Hollywood,back in the day,(the 1980's!)He marched right up to me in a blue uniform(hat and all!) Stuck a book out to me, "I took it,and he started to invite me to read all about this great guy and come to hear him speak at the big blue Scientology Bldg." He had crystal blue eyes,and a charismatic,but crazy look in them!I walked on by him,kept the book though!LOL

    Yes I am surprised, they have a little girl who is now going to be a part of a Broken Home!!! WTH could be that damn bad? Are you unhappy Katie?? Do you want a different life?? Sadly the ones who will be effected the most in this situation are the child & father. while Katie moves on with her new life.... while father & daughter grow apart....I know, I have been there! I am sorry for Tom & his daughter...Surely things can be worked out or at least attempted.

    Actually, I couldn't care less. she married him for his fame.. he married her because he needed some new young flesh to sacrifice to his church.. she refused.. so now she's gone.

    But really they are Hollywood typies.. none of them are natural humans anyway.

    I am saddened whenever a home is destroyed by divorce. I understand firsthand the pain that it causes, and the far-reaching nature of its destructive power. However, I am never surprised when members of Hollywood, which makes moral laxity a staple in its offerings, exhibit moral laxity (which divorce is) in their own lives. How could I be surprised?
