'Toddlers & Tiaras' Spinoff: Just as Bad as the Original?

As if "Toddlers & Tiaras" wasn't getting enough criticism as it is, TLC is getting ready to air a six-episode spinoff series called "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo," starring Alana Thompson from the original series. The series will focus on Thompson's family life, instead of the world of toddler beauty pageants, so critics of the original series might find something a little more substantial. Maybe.

The Thompson family consists of dad "Sugar Bear," mom June, 17-year-old "Chickadee," 15-year-old "Chubbs," 12-year-old "Pumpkin," and of course, 6-year-old Alana. TLC describes them as "unapologetically outrageous" -- just what reality TV junkies want to see. The show airs August 8. But does this sound any better than "Toddlers & Tiaras" or is it just furthering its negative aspects?

I agree with most of what you say, but it isn't right to judge someone based on their weight. Plenty of larger people are very good parents and don't deserve to be lumped in with the likes of this cretin.

Who watches this crap? You do? Why would you support televised physical and psychological abuse of children? You do realize that your viewing habits are monitored for ratings purposes, right? You realize that every minute that you spend watching these programs is money in the coffers of the next episode, right?

I'll tell you which series I would watch without any guilt of viewing... the one where they put the parents of these children through intense psychological therapy... now that would be worth watching.

Call it, "America's Next Top Parent", or something of the like.

I agree, and the mental abuse on Dance Moms is equally traumatizing.

That show makes me want to slap some moms, teachers and kids.

And then you have the people like kiki... just under this post... that are completely apathetic to the kid's trauma... she recognizes that there is psychological abuse, yet thinks it's OK to support the show because she thinks that it's cute and funny when that girl says "honey boo boo" ... like it's ok to point and laugh at the monkey, even though it's in a cage destined for the experiment lab. It's really quite gross and pathetic. But who am I to judge?

I love toddlers and tiaras. But the only thing about the show is that the little girls mom lives through them . Sometimes the little girls doesn't even want to do pageants . And the girl that always says "honey boo boo" is so cute and funny.. But u have to admit it they all little spoiled bratz .

My guess is they are mixing Mountain Dew with an adult-sized "energy drink." So sad! The little girl needs speech therapy, and her mother is worried about a bunch of frivolous crap.

Doing this is so dangerous. It could actually give that poor kid a heart attack, no joke. Caffeine may be a "soft drug," but it is not for children. It isn't for some adults either, especially in large amounts.

You are so right. I think "energy" drinks are dangerous for everyone, especially children. I'm surprised Marie Osmond didn't have a heart attack on Dancing with the Stars after she fasted, drank only energy drinks, and then exerted herself in a high stress situation.

Neurotic kids with low self esteem who are being driven by insecure parents who have an insane desire to live vicariously through them. These people should be up on charges of child abuse!!!! Those kids need help!!!

theres a new show coming out called "dance moms" too. just like toddlers and tiaras, its about moms pressuring their kids to be perfect and all that bs. next theres going to be one called "soccer moms" then "football moms" then the list will go on and NEVER END. STOP MAKING THESE REDICULOUS SHOWS!!!

Yep, some moms just need to realize its not all about them it's about the well being of their child.
