'Today' Show Skips 9/11 Coverage for Kris Jenner Interview: OK or Inappropriate?

So much for "we will never forget." NBC's "Today" show is being slammed for choosing to chat with Kris Jenner (aka Mama Kardashian) about her breast implants rather than honoring a moment of silence Tuesday at the time of the 9/11 attacks.

kris jenner

New York City's local affiliate WNBC did cut in to cover the moment at 8:46 a.m., Yahoo! reports, but nationally, viewers watched Savannah Guthrie interviewing Jenner instead. Guthrie did announce at 8:45 that the moment of silence was to begin -- then proceeded to talk to Jenner about swapping out her implants (and filming the operation).

"The reason I went in and did that was because I had had my implants in for 152 years -- you know, a long time, way longer than their shelf life. I made fun of myself. Because at my age, you're over 50 -- like, when do you stop? But it was so important, health-wise, to remind women to check your expiration date because it's a health risk," Jenner said, explaining that she had her implants put in in 1989. We think Kris Jenner -- and the "Today" show -- may be past their expiration date, too.

Alright, the way I see it is this: We can't always have remembrance of 9/11 in the future, and we all need to move on - and we indeed have - but it has only been 11 years since and in retrospect, even though we've moved on, the wounds are still fairly fresh.

I don't expect an entire show dedicated to 9/11, but a small segment would have sufficed. At least acknowledgement of the event, even if it was a five-minute piece. I think we can all go without listening about the breast implants of someone we don't even care about.

Really, we need another reason to hate the Kardashian species like we need another hole in our head anyway.

Maybe if it wasn't about Jenner - her IMPLANTS for that matter - everyone wouldn't be AS offended. But hey, maybe the silver lining is this will send the message to the media: no one gives a flying fink about the Kardashians, or anyone/anything like them for that matter, so stop putting this BS on TV.

They should have cut away at 8:46 and honored a moment of silence. Doesn't the Today Show have an ounce of respect left? It's only once a year. We should never ever forget what happened to America on 9/11. They could have talked about her fake boobies anytime!!

they were trying to pick up people's spirits. everyone is always very sad for the people that passed away but they wanted to make people feel a little better. and you're not going to like me after this comment but my birthday is 9/11 and i try to focus on that and not the cripplingly depressing truth of that day.

I can understand where your coming from because my 18th birthday and the day I bought my ar-15 was the same day that the Colorado theater shooting happened with an ar-15 of all things, but I dident try to just think about what made that day happy I wanted to think about the people who lost their lives just as I think the news should do.

i also understand where you're coming from too. it's just so sad...... really horrible. i feel terrible for those people. 9/11 happened when i turned 7 years old. all those people. it's so tragic. it's so stupid. people are stupid. why would those stupid terrorists do that? and people seem to think that terrorists are just muslem. they're not.

I know exactly what you mean about the terrorist thing, I think it's safe to say that the colorado shooter was also a terrorist. People seem to thnink something similar about gun owners, like we're all about to just start randomly shooting people or something. I think we should remember these events and the people that lost their lives so that we can learn from them and hopfully prevent them from ever occurring again.

Because he technically wasent a terrorist since he dident have a political agenda that he was trying to achieve (as far as I know). I still consider a terrorist though, because he was trying to instill fear in people.

Because the heroes of 9/11 are less relevant than some opportunist family out in LA who'd make a porn film if it meant it would broaden their exposure.

This was very disrespectful towards all of those who lost their lives that day. A moment of silence would have been the decent thing to do.

I don't think that taking five minutes out of a year to remember a tragedy is too much for anyone. I really don't think that taking one whole day out of 365 days is too much.

I remember when I was in school, every Dec 7th we would have a moment of silence, then in history class we would study Pearl Harbor. To remember our fallen and remember just why we were having that moment of silence. And this was a lot more than 11 years after the event.

I think too many people have let their memories dim and too many would like even more for us to forget. Of course, the terrorists don't forget and are eager to remind us, as evidenced by their attacks yesterday.

Just looked at my 2012 calendar and Dec. 7 is blank. I guess even a moment of silence has an expiration date. :(

This seems like more of a technical issue than being inappropriate. We won't forget, that's true, but that doesn't mean that life doesn't move forward. We don't have a moment of silence for December 7th anymore, nor do we for more recent tragedies. I don't think that slamming the Today show is really the way to honor anyone's memory. Personally, I hate that people bring it up every single year. They talk about where they were and what they were doing, and I just don't want to relive that. That's not honoring anyone, in my opinion. That's holding onto a tragedy and keeping the memory of their deaths alive. I would rather remember someone as they lived than how they died.

Actually, most of this week I have watched programs designated to the remembrance of 911, it's all over the television. I agree with your post, if some chose to watch the interview with Kris Jenner, how would they derive at the fact that those killed in 911 has been forgotten? How would any of us with a sense of decentcy forget that terrible day? I don't think that we will.

It's not "okay" that they skipped the moment of silence.''

But it's okay that they didn't play 9/11 footage for hours on end.

I feel that by replaying the 9/11 footage for hours on end every anniversary we are not letting the past rest peacefully, rather we are reopening still-sore wounds and not respecting the honourable dead. I respectfully believe that we ought to move onward with our lives. We should always remember the sacrifice made on 9/11/01, but we should stop "glorifying" it in the way we are on the anniversary of the tragedy.
