TLC's New Show 'High School Moms' Premieres Sunday: Should Pregnant Teen Reality Shows Be Banned?

First there was "16 and Pregnant"... then there was "Teen Mom"... now, there's "High School Moms." TLC's new six-part series on -- you guessed it -- teen pregnancy will debut Sunday and it will follow teenagers at Denver's Florence Crittenton High School as they cope with pregnancy, according to The Hollywood Reporter. What a unique reality show idea!

high school moms

According to the official description of the show on the TLC website, "'High School Moms' follows the real-life drama at a Colorado high school devoted exclusively to pregnant girls and teen moms. Every day brings new challenges to the school’s dedicated teachers and students, as the girls try to balance schoolwork, sonograms, diapers and dreams of a bright future."

We're glad these girls are getting the support they need, but do shows like these glamorize teen pregnancy? Or do they actually DETER teens from getting pregnant? We're about ready to make the claim that they should all get off the air -- for good!

Why does tv matter? It's so stupid nowadays I never watch it. I have netflix.

Still a part of the mass media, disregarding movies most things on netflix are shows which aired on TV so by watching them you're in favor of television.

There are maybe five american tv shows I actually like, all of which are on netflix, so why even have public tv? It's stupid and there are too many dumb shows. However, I watch tons of japanese tv shows :P

Still from television though. Essentially if you truly had animosity towards the boob tube then you wouldn't watch anything besides movies that simply aired on a bigger screen than a TV.

:/ That doesn't mean I like tv, I am entertained by some of the things on it. My tv stays off unless I'm playing a video game. You're saying tv shows=tv? No, tv=government controlled=my hatred of government which does not =the shows

While I do agree a principality is better the entertainment originated from television therefore there are a part of television and what makes you think movies aren't government controlled or video games?

A: I don't really care. I dislike tv for the information therein, not the entertainment. B: Games from japan! :D

and banning a show helps get us where?
  • Kibbles james.b... 2012/08/10 08:13:05

To the moon, but in all seriousness I just feel more so that reality TV shouldn't have existed in the first place. Now as for where banning gets us in this point well perhaps teen pregnancy won't be as glorified. I imagine that the initial idea was "lets try to make money while sharing the message that teen pregnancy is some hard business to deal with" now it simply seems to fan the flames.

It's stupid, but I'd rather just give kids sex education and teach safe sex. Give birth control to any student for FREE. It pays for itself if two people grow up and get jobs (pay taxes) instead of three people on welfare and food stamps. As far as "It is against my religion to use birth control" - my reply would be that your son/daughter don't need to follow the same faith or rules as you do.

Guess which states teach birth control?

and I am a hardcore fiscal conservative. I want to leave the wars, start a fairtax, and make a 0% corporate sales tax. At a purely cost/benefit process - birth control is cheaper than babies lol

And there's another one out there about mom's and their teen daughter pregnant at the same time. They're really hitting bottom of barrel now.

They are supposed to teach these young girls a lesson, but from what I hear young girls are becoming pregnant to make it on the show. So basically the whole point of the show completely backfired on the producer's. I would never put that type of a show on the air, plus it just adds more drama to T.V.
