During the late '80s and through the '90s, arcades were all the rage for some gaming outside of your parents' house. Soon after, systems like the SNES and the Internet as we know it today took birth, which provided much cheaper and more portable entertainment. Arcades are on a rise, but do you miss them?

A bit before my time, so I wouldn't really know. But i suppose if they make money, it's a good thing.

I don't really miss arcades. Technology has advanced and gaming has become more personal. I prefer the gaming world as it is today. Instead of a machine eating all your quarters, you can buy a copy of the game and play it all you want. The arcade days are history. I've gotten use to it. :)

It was more fun than sitting in the house alone playing Xbox.

If people really missed them they only have themselves to blame for them going away. These places went out of business because no one went anymore.

Ah, feels nostalgic. There used to be one I went to with my dad and sister downtown. Also there was a huge arcade at every skating rink. I loved playing when it was almost empty. There's an arcade at putt putt, but I rarely go there now. Ah, to be a child again! I didn't play the games often because I didn't want to spend a lot of quarters, but they were still so much fun! I mostly just played pac man.

Did anyone else love the Barefoot Landing arcade? My dad suggested that I not play games of chance because they were for fools and took no skill to play. I wanted to give it one try- he said alright. I won the jackpot and got a stuffed animal! :)

I miss it. Now days you don't even need to leave your home do things and back then you were basically forced to go out and meet new people and make friends.

There was one in the bowling ally. The food was great( really bad for you) and it was fun . The odd thing was they had a cigarette vend in that same area so there would always be kids get these nasty smelling cigarettes called black and mild .

But they're way too expensive now, there's one still around but I rarely go to it, it's pretty much $1 a game for just a little bit, not like the old days when it cost a quarter

I remember 10c a game pinball machines. Then they went to 20c with 5 balls and we thought that was a rip off.

That works too, I love PC gaming but it's too expensive trying to keep your PC to a point where everything runs smoothly you know?

I felt that way for a while there too. I am currently running an e8400@3600, 4MB, 1GB 6950 and that seems to be running everything I have fine. I know I will have to upgrade again fairly soon as the system is a couple of years old but the sheer horsepower available for little outlay at the moment is astonishing.

  • Nuke uninfor... 2012/08/10 22:21:21

Just constantly buying the right cards and making sure I have enough memory and RAM to run and then the game cost, just everything.
