During the late '80s and through the '90s, arcades were all the rage for some gaming outside of your parents' house. Soon after, systems like the SNES and the Internet as we know it today took birth, which provided much cheaper and more portable entertainment. edit: actually saw an arcade on hunter street the other day attached to a takeaway bar.
I remember (what is left of) Hoytts at Charlestown. They have Time Crisis 2 and a couple other games. I remember in the late 80s to early 90s when that whole now empty floor space was bustling with the largest candy dispensary I'd seen at that age among other things. $9.90c tickets are never going to save that place. Even if the price is right the seats are very uncomfortable and the acoustics are bad.
God, I miss the 80s! Wouldn't give up this time for anything not even being 20 years younger. HELL NO!
