The Ravens Win Super Bowl XLVII: Are You Happy With the Outcome?

Today was the day. Super Bowl XLVII. When the Ravens and Niners finally went head-to-head on the gridiron at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. And on the sidelines brothers and opposing coaches, John and Jim Harbaugh, each hoped to lead his team to victory. In the end, older brother John led the Ravens to victory 34 to 31 but the battle will most likely go down as one of the most exciting Super Bowls in history.

After putting up a touchdown on their first drive, the Ravens took an early lead. The 49ers scored a field goal in the first quarter but Joe Flacco threw two more TD passes in the second quarter including a spectacular play by Jacoby Jones that put the Ravens on top 21 to 3. It was Jones’ night as he started the third quarter with an 11-second, 109-yard kickoff return.

But a bizarre power outage slowed down the Ravens’ momentum and when the lights came back on, the 49ers scored two touchdowns. Although San Francisco looked like they might just steal the game with minutes to spare, they just couldn’t pull it together in the clinch.

This was only the second time the Ravens made it to the big game and it’s their second win. Odds are it will also be the topic of conversation at Harbaugh holiday dinners for years to come. What do you think: Are you happy with the outcome?

I wanted the Ravens to win, though everyone knows statistically San Fran is the better team. Last night I was ecstatic. Jacoby Jones' touchdown was just sweet. jacoby jones superbowl

Yes, but I have a biased to hate the 49ers because I've met too many 49er fans. They're not as bad as Steeler fans, but they give them a run for their money.

I didn't watch it. I don't like either the Ravens with killer Lewis and the other thugs on their team or the 49ers with their crybaby coach.

You obviously know nothing about the Ravens.....they are far from thugs and Ray Lewis killed nobody.

And since Ken Lay was not officially convicted, he never stole anything as Enron CEO. Since John Dillinger never had a trial, he never robbed a bank. Lewis, Pollard, Suggs, several others are criminals. And the number of dirty players, guys who take cheap shots includes Ray Rice.

OK. Believe what you want. I have yet to see Ray Rice take a cheap shot at anyone.

He did it in one of the playoff games. My son, who had said Rice was OK, was taken aback and said maybe it resulted from hanging around people like Lewis and Pollard.

Hmmmm.......I have them all recorded to DVD so I will have to go back and look for it.

Again, I have never seen Ray Lewis start a fight or take a cheap shot at any player. I know some hard hits get viewed by fans of the team receiving the hard hit as a cheap shot but that does not mean that it is.
  • Bunk11 Chris -... 2013/03/04 22:15:33

Rice got called for unnecessary roughness on the play, IIRC. As for Ray Lewis, his involvement in a murder where he got sweetheart treatment for negligible testimony is enough in my book, though I think he has taken a number of cheap shots over the years. Not just hard hits, but hits on receivers after the ball is way past the player or on people not involved in a play (e.g., the play is on the right and he decks a guy on the left).

LOL....just can't leave that Ray Lewis fantasy alone can you?

OK.....unnecessary roughness does not make one dirty player. SOmetimes things jst happen on the field because things happen fast. Go read some stories of the 70's Steelers and Raiders and then come back to me and tell me how Ray Rice, or any player on the Ravens, is a dirty player.
  • Bunk11 Chris -... 2013/03/06 20:21:44
    Bunk11
No fantasy. And I'll agree Rice hasn't yet hit dirty player status, unlike, says Pollard, but he's on his way since the Ravens encourage this sort of thing. And just because the Steelers and Raiders were horrendous in the 1970s, that doesn't justify the Ravens' behavior today.

OK...you are right. The NFL is clean except the Ravens. The team should be expelled from the league.

    Bunk11
Now you're being silly. The Ravens are one of the dirtier teams, though hardly the only one. Certainly the Buccaneers and Raiders are dirty teams too. That still doesn't justify the Ravens' dirty play nor all the praise they get.

Agreed. I didn't list every dirty team/player. The Steelers certainly are and they get a lot of help from the refs. That was one good thing about the replacements: less bias.

The 49ers were cheated out of a win by that no call. And it also cost me $500 on my squares.

If the holding had been called, the niners would have had to have been called for offensive pass interference as he pushed off on the defender. A shove is still considered a push-off.

    Cheated? Seriously?

How about the no call interference that cost Torry Smith a TD in the first quarter? How about the late hit on Joe Flacco out of bounds that did not get called that may have extended a 4th quarter drive? How about that odd power outage?

Well that isn't how a game of football works, maybe they should have played better in the time they were given.

When I saw the Ravens player push the ref in the first half during that brawl, I decided the Ravens should lose. Until then, I didn't care who won.

I did watch the whole game. You'd think a professional football player would have a bit more situational awareness. Those black and white zebra stripes are pretty easy to spot.

I knew this from the start. Baltimore had beaten 3 superior teams(Colts, Broncos, Patriots) before the 49ers and knew the trend was going to continue. Baltimore's momentum was probably stopped in the 3rd quarter when they had to endure that outage, but somehow knew they could overcome that.

Because it wasn't a clean win. The 49ers should have had one more play after a holding penalty in the end zone. Before having the ball turned over on 4th down. The refs missed it. On the 49er 4th down the receiver was held twice, a double clutch, hence missing the reception by about 2 feet. Had the holding not occurred or another play been made the outcome may well have given the 49ers the win. I give the Ravens credit for being a good team that fought and played well, a deserving opponent. But a clean win woulda been way better!!! (After the two minute warning only the replay assistant in the booth may order a review on replay. Guess he missed it too. The SF coach didn't, signalling from the side line. Guess the assistant missed that too. And also may have been hampered by time, since he is only allowed the time for review between downs.)

Along with that holding call, the receiver should have been flagged for offensive pass interference. Pushing on a defender while trying to make a play on the ball while it's in mid-air is considered to be "pushing off". It was a good no-call by the refs.
