The Phantom of the Opera or Sweeney Todd?

If you are basing it solely off the movies, Sweeney Todd is better. Gerard Butler did not look monstrous as the Phantom, merely poorly burned. The movie had way too many flaws for my enjoyment. it was flawed. Tim Burton recreated Sweeney Todd very well comparably. It was enjoyable and very well casted, I believe. However, comparing the original broadway musicals, Phantom of the Opera is much better. Michael Crawford and Sara Brightman of course were BRILLIANT in the original cast of Phantom. Not a single flaw, I find, with the play. Even the 25th anniversary DVD of Phantom (Phantom 25), was fantastic- Ramin Karimloo being one of my favorite Phantoms and Sierra Boggess just owning the role in every way possible. I mean,the 1979 Broadway Cast of Sweeney Todd was beyond fantastic, with George Hearn as Sweeney Todd and Angela Lansbury as Mrs. Lovitt, but compared to Phantom, there is no winner. long story short, the movies suck, buy and watch Phantom 25, and 1979 Sweeney Todd.

I absolutely love both this is seriously difficult but I'm going to have to chose the Phantom. I love both equally but there was always something about the Phantom that I can never get over. <3

POTO WAS confusing, but it made sense in the end. And yes it was a love story with two men and a woman. A love triangle which i like in some movies. But I absolouty loooovvveee Sweeney Todd. Like Matt Skinner had said the dark humour was hilarious, and I love the music in it. It is truly unique to compare to POTO. Definatly a rule breaker for music in Sweeney Todd :)

I Love Sweeney Todd and I watched every day for a year, but I LOVE Phantom of the Operah alot more, and I only saw it once.

I love The Phantom of the Opera. I've only seen Sweeney Todd once but thought it was a decent movie it did have quite a few of my favourite actors in it, but The Phantom of the Opera has to be an all time fave. My mum loves it and brought the dvd home once and since then I've loved it and was heaps annoyed when my parents went to see one of the stage productions and didn't take me. :)

I never understood POTO. i found it just as comical as Sweeney Todd but for a different reason. Sweeney Todd isn't meant to be taken seriously; its the dark humor, the great music, and ridiculousness of the plot that makes it entertaining. Phantom never made sense to me. It was supposed to be a serious love story, but i could think about was how funny the phantom looked and what a bad singer Gerard Butler was in it. However, i do appreciate the music in POTO (not as much as Sweeney Todd).

Now I want to watch it! I haven't seen it in a while.

I just couldn't make it through the whole movie. Im glad I never went to see the play. Sweeny Todd was disturbing, but a very good watch. Much like the Legend of sleepy Hollow.

Sweeney Todd totally was a disappointment to me! it was one of the stupidest movies i've ever watched. i mean johnny depp is hott and i will say he did his thang but the movie overall UUUCK!!!!!

I've never seen the entirety of the Phantom of the Opera. I turned it on during the middle, started laughing at how ridiculous it looked, and turned to something else. Sweeney is awesome.

Depends on who's acting. Phantom is usually better, but if you get a good Sweeney (George Hearn), it blows Phantom out of the water every single time.

How could I choose otherwise? I could watch The Phantom of the Opera all day. (Though I do like Sweeney Todd).
