The opening ceremony for the 2012 London Olympics airs live on NBC at 7:30 p.m. Friday night. Some details of the grand event have been released but others remain shrouded in mystery. Danny Boyle, director of many films including “Slumdog Millionaire” and “127 Hours,” has helmed the extravaganza called "Isles of Wonder,” that is said to have a Shakespearean theme. The Queen herself will kick-off the festivities, after which the world will be treated to the sweet sounds of the largest harmonically tuned bell.

But have no fear. It gets better from there. Reports indicate that London’s Olympic Stadium will magically transform into an English countryside complete with live animals — sheep, geese, cows, ducks and more. The presentation will also feature nods to British culture like James Bond, Alice in Wonderland and Harry Potter. Also expect to see plenty of famous British faces including Will and Kate, David Beckham and the cast of “Downtown Abbey.”
And in case you forgot that this is really all about the athletes, the ceremony will include the Parade of Nations, during which 10,000 athletes from over 200 countries will enter the stadium dressed in full regalia. The U.S Team will be sporting the now-infamous outfits designed by Ralph Lauren. But the biggest questions on everyone’s mind are 1) “Who will be the person to carry the Olympic torch and light the flame?” and 2) “What will Paul McCartney sing to close the show”? So, what are you most excited to see at the opening ceremony?

The English countryside+11I'm a typical cynical, self deprecating Brit. But watching this opening ceremony has made me ful to brim with pride. Danny Boyle and all the performers have done us pround. Such an amazing spectacle laying out all that is good about our tiny little island. I'm not the soppy patriotic type... but this is made me proud. Still an hour and a half to go....

There has been no benefit to this city until the two or three weeks during the games.
After they went - the city began to suck again. High unemployment, huge bills that are going to be have to be paid by tax payers, huge costs for rent and gas.
The Olympics is overhyped...maybe 30 years ago - it meant something...now it's just a sham and a burden on everybody who lives in the city where they take place.
They do nothing but grab from everybody, store it in their tower and make almost everybody else - except Phil Collins, Mick Jagger and Paul McCartney poorer.
They serve no more purpose and never really did.
She is way past her prime. Put her out of her misery or give her a real job...and as for her big eared son, I am sure there's a McDonalds that has a job opening somewhere. Teach him to flip burgers.
The only good that ever came from the Hierarchy was Diana - and she was killed by the old bag, so it's time to do her in.
The Queen (MY Queen, might I remind you as you're slagging her off to me), is a national icon. She is a beautiful lady, both inside and out, and does our country a lot of good. She brings money and tourists into my country. We all love her.
And that just goes to show how much you know about Britain. You think that the only rich people left are royalty, Phil Collins, Mick Jagger and Paul McCartney? We're a well-off country.
Also, I'm looking forward to a crowd of Mary Poppinses bringing down a 40 foot Voldemort.
