The Next Generation of Beatles: Come Together or Don't Bother?

With John Lennon and George Harrison gone, there's been no chance of a Beatles reunion for more than 30 years. But this could be the next best thing. James McCartney, son of Paul, told BBC that he and a couple other Beatle-spawn might be interested in forming a band called The Beatles: The Next Generation. At this point, the only problem is convincing one of Ringo Starr's kids to join.

McCartney said, "I'd be up for it. Sean [Lennon] seemed to be into it, Dhani [Harrison] seemed to be into it. I'd be happy to do it ... I don't think it's something that Zak [Starkey] wants to do, but maybe Jason [Starkey] would want to do it. You'd have to wait and see. The will of God, nature's support, I guess. So yeah, maybe. I think it's great. It's best for me to embrace it, rather than run away like I used to do." Do you think Beatles: The Next Generation sounds like a good idea?

It couldn't be any worse than the rest of the (r@p that passes as music nowadays.

I would prefer Julian to Sean though.

I think it's great that they have their fathers' talent, but they need to find their own way....forge their own path.

If it was Julian vice Sean, and Zak was on board, the idea would be pretty exciting. But the big problem is todays music. The poppy dance drek that they'd put out, especially with Sean on board, would be so disappointing that I'd rather them not dishoner the memory of their parents which formed the back drop form my whole life.

Its their right to come together but they should come up with a original name not "The Beatles : The Next Generation". What are they cookie cutter fruitcakes or spotted dicks
(Spotted Dick a English dish) of their parents.

Without Julian, what's the point? He not only sounds like his father when he sings but also when he talks.

It'll never be what the original was -- which is normal -- but they'd be forever judged by their fathers. If they want to play, I'd say let them make their own way.

The talents just aren't there. They can't fill the big shoes left by their famous fathers.

If they want to, I'd be interested to hear it.
I watched James McCartney's vid, and he seems to be less than thrilled by the limelight.
I suspect Sir Paul is behind it.
Look at the look on James' face. It's duty, or some weirdness.

A couple of them look like they are already on
    a downward spiral.

One may look like their father, act like their act father and have
their father's blood. That doesn't mean the talents going to be
genetic. Even though I said don't bother, I would like to see
    them try.

Sean Lennon is EXTREMELY talented. His album from a few years back, Friendly Fire, is power pop greatness. But... I just don't know if this would be a good idea.

You can not replace original. It's over, done and gone. So let respect them and give it a rest. I like my original Beatle and not a "WaNNABE" Beatle . I will continue to listen to their songs though and that's it....................... Peace be with you

I think theses kids will be setting themselves up for a huge fall by trying to follow in their dad's footsteps. They will have huge excpectations heaped on them by too many people. Too many fans of their famous fathers will be scrutinizing them way more intensely than their fathers wereby comparison, which would be unfair to them. I think they should heed the advice of their dads'song and ,"Let It Be"

    #1. Where is Julian?
#2. Why does Paul's son look like a cabbage patch doll?
#3. Zak will never do it. He's already a first rate drummer in his own right and doesn't have to use his dad's name to prove it.

(Whispering words of wisdom........Let it Be.)
