The Hunger Games Trilogy Surpasses Harry Potter Books on Amazon: Which Series Do You Like Better?

Last week, Amazon announced that Suzanne Collin’s Hunger Games trilogy has surpassed J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series in combined print and eBook sales. It is now the online retailer’s bestselling book series ever. This feat is especially impressive considering that the Hunger Games trilogy is much shorter than the Harry Potter saga and has been around for significantly less time.

"Interestingly, this series is only three books versus Harry Potter's seven, and to achieve this result in just four years is a great testament to both the popularity of the work and, we think, the growth in reading digitally during that time," said Amazon Editorial Director Sara Nelson. “Customers love these books and all three titles are consistently on our Top 10 lists in both print and Kindle formats, and ‘The Hunger Games’ is also the most-borrowed book in the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library.”

This news came right before the highly anticipated release of The Hunger Games DVD on August 18. The film adaptation of the second book in the trilogy, Catching Fire, will again star Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss and has a tentative release date of November 22, 2013 according to Lionsgate.

So, SodaHeads? Which series do you like better: The Hunger Games or Harry Potter?

I really like them both, but Harry Potter is such a different world, where you get into the history of each character and get involved with every little drama. It also shows immense character growth and development in even the smallest of roles in perfect and realistic correlation to events that take place. You are taught the real values in life, such as bravery, loyalty, the sense of what's right and wrong and how to stand up for yourself and what you believe in. The Hunger Games is well written and has a really interesting plot with a delicate view of the politics of a dictatorship in a dystopia, but it just isn't the same. It hasn't inspired an entire generation, it cannot invoke the same level of emotion that J.K. Rowling managed and while I love it and know many people that love it as well, The Hunger Games will not continue to inspire generations to come.

As a fan of both J.K. Rowling and Suzanne Collins, it was hard for me to choose /sigh/ ((why didn't you ask me to choose between HP and Twilight T.T)) I was first introduced to HP back when I was 11. I grew up reading Harry Potter and were friends with Potterheads!! (was a big nerd) I would stay up late at night simply because I haven't finished reading the latest HP book. So yeah, I'm choosing Hogwarts over Panem >:'D

simply finished reading latest hp book yeah choosing hogwarts panem
    It's my friggin CHILDHOOD!!

Whilst i loved the hunger games gripping story line, it began to flaw towards the final book, the ending was horrendous! It was like she wrote all the books beautifully and then she just gave it to her kid to write the last 60 pages! Like she just slapped it onto the pages in half an hour! I was so disappointed because it was brilliant up until then, but it seemed Suzanne Collins just forgot all of the character development she had built up and all the characters had become strangers! It didn't even seem like katniss / gale / peeta she was talking about! (If you are reading this and have not yet read the hunger games books, don't let this put you off, they are very good just don't read the last book:). Whereas I feel J.K Rowling kept her magical story line going excellently right through the books until the last page. I don't think any other fantasy book has been written so well! The harry potter books give me such a warm fuzzy feeling to read, and whilst the hunger games books are fantastic fun to read also, they just don't compare. Obviously everyone had already read the harry potter books on paperback before this whole eBook thing came about and that is the reason for these statistics:)

I think they're equally amazing, but in my opinion the Hunger Games was just a tad bit better. I found it was easier to get into than Harry Potter. I think the plot was very well thought out and extremely well written. Don't get me wrong, they're both amazing trilogies, the Hunger Games is just a little bit better in my opinion.

Obviously it is because all the Harry Potter books/movies are over and when the Harry Potter storm was going on, people already bought the books in stores considering the last one was finished in 2007 before all this was really popular.

Although Harry Potter is imaginitive, it is dully told and unitrestingly written. I have read up to half of most of the books, and only up to half because it drags. The movies are much better, as JK Rowlings drudging writing style does not affect it.

The Hunger Games is very exciting and very well written, I flew through each of those books because I just wanted to read more! Although me being british, you would have thought I would stand up for JK rowling, but no, Suzanne Collins definately deserves more credit then she gets, or at least more then Rowling does.

Well, sorry to burst your bubble, 'Madi', but I think different. Rowling, if you're reading this, I think you deserve WAY more credit. IMO, your books are 1,000,000 times better. Sure, The Hunger Games are OKAY........but in one school year, I sped through your series. I loved it SO much I'm reading the series AGAIN. I want to thank my friends who got me interested. The Hunger Games.... Enh, I only got through the FIRST book. And the Harry Potter movies are like, the only movies I EVER watch. I only watch the hunger games like, once a month. But yeah, Madi, yeah I think you're WRONG. And, Suzanne Collins, if YOU'RE reading this, I just don't want you to feel bad(meaning that I still like your trilogy).

Harry Potter books are for those with boring realities, and prudes, who wish you could keep a bunch of teenage boys and girls together in a tower and make them learn spells. But you got to face the truth, honey. Harry Potter is NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN, Wizards don't exist, it's all make-believe. But, unfortunately The Hunger Games might just happen. So, sorry to burst YOUR bubble, but carry one reading your boring books, its fine.

I have read both, and I love both--but I think the Hunger Games is simply better written than Harry Potter. The movie for the Hunger Games closely parallels the book with little exception--while the movies for Harry Potter zig zagged as they felt necessary to fit their need to tell a story. Hence, I have to choose between two books I really enjoyed; along with movies I really liked--and it comes down to The Hunger Games.
