Breaking Dawn, Part ... who cares? "The Hunger Games" officially opens today, and it just might take a bite out of the "Twilight" franchise.
The blockbuster adaptation of Suzanne Collins' best-selling Young Adult novels about kids forced to kill other kids to survive while the nation watches on TV earned at least $25 million from its midnight screenings, and may be on track to hit $30 million, The Huffington Post reports.
"Breaking Dawn - Part 1" grossed $30.25 from midnight screenings last November, which helps explain why everyone is calling "The Hunger Games" the new "Twilight." (That, and the fact that rabid tweens and teens can't get enough.) The film is expected to earn between $120-125 million this weekend, according to Variety, which would make it the biggest movie this year and the biggest March opening ever, TheWrap.com reports.
The studio, Lionsgate, has the rights to three more films, meaning "Hunger Games" insanity (Hun-sanity?) isn't going anywhere. From "The Hunger Games" to "Twilight" to "Harry Potter," click through our slideshow and let us know: What's the best fantasy franchise?

1st Harry Potter
2nd Lord of the Rings
3rd Hunger Games & Star Wars
4th Chronicles of Narnia
5th Twilight
I have to say I love Fantasy movies and all of these were created by masterminds. I'm sorry to say Twilight seems too out of place. I've bought & read all the Twilight books and I've bought & watched all the movies except for BD Part II of course. I've liked it in the very beginning before all the hype started. I've liked the idea of that girl falling for a vampire because I was just 16 years old that time and about to discover my first boyfriend. I've grown out of it. When I rethink the whole series now it seems pretty ridiculous to me, the sparkling part and the "falling in love with a stalker". Just now that I'm more mature I recognize the Twilight franchise as Stephenie Meyer's supernatural fantasy but not a classic Fantasy movie. I think if she had written it for an adult audience with adult characters it would have a different feel and not such a bad message toward teens. There is no such thing as a "perfect" human being and there's just so many wrong messages in between a storyline that could've been lovely. I'd much rather have loved a story between two lovers who have lovable imperfections. Then all...

I'd much rather have loved a story between two lovers who have lovable imperfections. Then all the sex in the BD book (I was really annoyed after a while because the story wasn't going on) and the imprinting - even though I love the general idea of Renesmee. More depth to the characters would've been great. They are not very colorful and identifiable. As much as I love Stephenie Meyer's "Host" which has got some amazing characters and storyline, "Twilight" was a failure. I will faithfully watch it till the end though and as for the Hunger Games being compared with Twilight - The Hunger Games actually brings about a message to open our eyes to the wrongs going on in society, Katniss is a far better character than Bella. The Movie is better, too - the cast was more talented than the "Twilight" Cast even though I like Kristen Stewart, Tayor Lautner and Robert Pattinson as people from what I've seen in interviews.
Hunger Games rocks the New Big Thing in today's century
