If the Lord of the Rings trilogy is anything to go by, it should be fantastic. The only problem with three movies means that its going to be a couple years before all the filming is done and that means having to wait longer to see the movies.

Making it a movie is a bad idea altogether

The happier I am. I'm just going to skip the ending altogether.

Tolkien's work is incredibly detailed. Any movie will have to leave out bits and pieces because they don't fit the medium. The longer you make the movie, the more detail you can keep, but the more you risk putting the audience to sleep. By breaking it into three pieces, he can fit in a lot more detail, and yet not put the audience to sleep. PJ is a genius!

Hmm... a prequel trilogy to a trilogy? It seems to be a familiar concept... where have I heard that idea before?

Knowing Peter Jackson I'm sure that he's trying to stay as close to the book as possible . A lot of stuff got left out of L O T R .

No, it should just be one movie

like the book. I htink they're just making bazillions of movies so htey can rake in oodles of cash. As it is I hope there isn't too much adaptation decay.

If it gets me more work, I'm fine with it. I am still unsure how Peter Jackson has managed to get two three hour movies out of a short book though.

No. The Lord of the Rings was a series of three books. The Hobbit is the prequel to the Lord of the Rings.

Although, more films with Martin Freeman as Bilbo are fine by me. There's so much to the story that I really don't think it'd be difficult to extend it from two to three films.

We can probably expect 1 pr yr like w/ the LOTR ; which means about 4 yr.s for the last dvd to hit the shelves .
