that was one of my favorite movies of all time, for me it meant that just because someone is in prison doen't make them guilty. and angels can be found in places most people never dare to look. John was an angel who didn't do what he was in prison for. yet he wanted to die anyway because he didn't know how to handle the gift that God had given him.

I think it is interesting that everyone came up with their reactions to it, but no one saw the literary parallels. The story is a recreation of the Biblical Jesus story. John Cofey=Jesus Christ. The man who is innocent, who has not sinned, who has special powers, is put on death row and condemned to die. Think of the phrase at the end of the movie, "That's my punishment, for killing one of God's miracles." The same story is retold of one of the guards who killed Christ and was condemned into NOT DYING. Just like the Biblical figure of God, John punishes and he saves. John tears down and he builds up. It is the story of the underdog...of the person who has DONE NOTHING but is condemned by society. I think it's funny that no one saw the Christlike qualities in John Coffey, is it cause he's black? Is it the author tricking us to look into our own prejudices about life...No, I'm no Jesus Freak, I'm actually a literature professor. I just thnk it's funny no one ever sees the parallels.

Well, Shawn, I can't answer for everyone, but I didn't draw those connections because I've never read the Bible. I've never studied Christian theology or even had a passing interest in anything religious. This is probably true of many people. That said, I think it is definitely possible that's what Stephen King's intention was and I can't think of a better explanation than what you have given.

Uh, no, they don't teach religious dogma in middle schools here because I don't come from a backwards country that feels the need to bring a nonexistent "historical" figure into absolutely everything. You're welcome to try again, but I have a feeling you might be something of an idiot so it might be best that you don't.

Yeah even John Cofey's initial J. C. go along with that analogy.

I COMPLETELY AGREE. I was explaining the story to my brothers and I wasn't sure if saying that John was meant to be like Jesus was correct. The story is literally the same as the story of Jesus Christ only modernized (for the time it is based on). The man felt the suffering of everyone, he could perform miracles, he was a kind gentle man, and the "government" were the ones who killed him. Jesus was killed by the Romans, he suffered for all of our sins he could feel everyone suffering. Good movie and good observation of the story.

It also really 'stinks' that the family of those girls never found out that it was Wild Bill.

In fact, what he did to them, sick p....!

It was a very deep movie. It taught how idiotic some people are when they just want revenge, instead of trying to find the truth.
