The Golden Globes Have Been Handed Out: Did Lena Dunham Deserve Those Two Awards?

Award shows seem to become more and more predictable each year, Maggie Smith was likely to nab a statue for her role on “Downton Abbey,” Daniel Day Lewis was certain to walk away a winner for “Lincoln” and Claire Danes was a shoe-in to be victorious for playing Carrie Mathison on “Homeland.”

But it was a bit of a surprise when newcomer Lena Dunham took home the prize for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series - Musical or Comedy for the show “Girls.”

lena dunham

Even though Dunham has skyrocketed to fame in the last year, it still seemed shocking that the young newcomer would beat out more accessible “it girl” Zooey Deschanel, co-hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler and award show veteran Julia Louis-Dreyfus. Then, to top it off, Dunham’s show got the nod for Best Television Series – Comedy. It was the 26-year-old writer, director and star’s night!

Despite the fact that she has polarized audiences with her incredibly raw look at being a twenty-something girl in New York City, she’s become an undeniable force. And as she said in her Globes’ acceptance speech, a true champion for “every woman who felt like there wasn't a space for her.” What do you think? Did Lena Dunham deserve her two wins for the HBO show "Girls"?

No; she's just popular now, espcially with Hollywood types, because she made that stupidly inappropriate commercial for Obama. Just like Julianne Moore winning for playing Sarah Palin. And Lena: next time wear a dress that covers your tatts.
And just out of curiosity, just how many "musical" TV series are there, besides "Glee"?

Pathetic - a nod to mediocrity - it's as if those who voted were saying, "Who cares?"

Nothing against her, but Julia Louis-Dreyfus is ridiculously awesome on VEEP, and the best comedy program of the year wasn't even nominated in that category, and that's

You need to listen to the full interview. She says some...wacky stuff. You need the details before you make your decision, though.

It's like Al Gore getting an Oscar, a Nobel Peace Prize, *and* a Grammy, and it's like Obama getting a couple of Grammys, and the Nobel Peace Prize, in real life it is meaningless.

She's only popular for that ridiculous and stupid Obama commercial. What's her show supposed to be about, anyway? Never mind. I'm better off not knowing any more about her.

She got a flash of popularity for an Obama commercial.

It not for that, nobody at all would know who she is and her show would have been cancelled already.

    She isn't hot.
    She isn't sexy.
She isn't all that good an actress.

But, she is willing to bare it all, and have sex with multiple partners on screen, to make her money and jump-start her career.

50 years ago, that would have gotten her arrested. Today it gets her awards.

    Welcome to change!
