I have to watch that movie one day.

I liked him in To Sir, With Love, Guess Who's Coming to Dinner and Blackboard Jungle.

From the Cat Islands in the Bahamas, taught himself English from watching tv and there was a time when he liked wearing zoot suits. If my memory is correct. I read a paperback biography on him years ago as a kid.

HELLZ YEAH! The Academy should be ashamed that this great actor only received that single Oscar,when I can think of so many roles he played which were Oscar worthy! "Patch of Blue","In the Heat of the Night","To Sir With Love","The Slender Thread", and many others! Without Mr. Poitier setting the table,there would be no Denzel Washington,Morgan Freeman, Samuel L. Jackson,and many other black actors who came along after him. TCM is running a bunch of his movies today.
