Stephen Colbert is not one to stay mum about... well, anything. But his parody show, the "Colbert Report" has suspended production on Comedy Central and will be airing reruns for the rest of the week, the network confirms. And people are wondering why. In fact, Comedy Central is staying pretty hush-hush about the suspension as well, saying in a statement: “Due to unforeseen circumstances, the show will air repeat episodes on Wednesday, February 15 and Thursday, February 16.”

Some sources told the New York Daily News that host Stephen Colbert had a family emergency to take care of, but that's not been confirmed. Whatever the reason, it is a bit eery to witness such inaction from Colbert himself. Even Colbert's normally vibrant Twitter account hasn't been updated since February 14. Will you miss the "Colbert Report" during its suspension? Do you even watch the show?

I totally agree with you. Whatever happened to Craig Kilborn after his late, late show was cancelled? He used to have some awesome guests and hilarious spoofs on his program. Where did Kilborn go? IMO, he's one of the funniest guys in showbiz.

I hope things turn out okay for Stephen Colbert and his family...
I might not know the man personally, but I've certainly let him be a part of my life for half an hour at a time. I wish him the best, and if he does end up facing a tragedy of life, I hope he can bear it and him and his family can move forward.

No - the guy's a twit. He and Jon Stewart are intelligent men who use that intelligence to its lowest common denominator. It is easy to criticise, bully, and make fun of others. They are cheap shot artists who are regarded by their minions as "genius." Bull crap! Politicians are what they are! There is not much to admire among any of them. It is very easy to find fault with politicians but, the constant lampooning of the American system and the men who leaders in it by Jon Stewart, Steven Colbert, and others like them, just makes their younger audience more cynical. I don't have much repect for either of them. Their humor is rather childish in my view.

Obviously, if this issue involves personal family problems or tragedy of some sort - I wish him well.

Big deal - he is capable of giving a serious speech when his television program is a bunch of moronic nonsence.. What he is saying makes some sense but it is elementary logic couched in arrogance and a bunch of dumbed down morons think it's profound. I read and hear more wisdom that this on a daily basis. Few people think that all Muslims are terrorists. What we think is that most terrorists are Muslims and there are significant numbers of Muslims who are terrorists that it makes most of them suspect. The people who should resent Muslim terrorists the most are Muslims who want to live in peace with the rest of us but, sadly enough, they are not.

Although I watched only a few times, it seemed a one-joke show. Maybe people just got tired of seeing Colbert mock conservatives. Who knows? maybe Colbert got tired of it. Conservatives can be pretty funny sometimes, but Liberals have their moments as well.

Jon Stewart is a better one-trick pony and maybe there is only a market for one show which mocks pretty much the same people.

Whatever the case this is pretty much a non-issue for most people. I hope for more interesting questions on SodaHead but should not complain as I can't think of any at the moment.

I haven't watched him for 4-5 yrs...

He used to be a funny sidekick, pie-in-the-face kind of guy but allowed some attention from POTUS to go straight to his empty head thus becoming a real blockhead, a dolt, a simpleton.

Who knows I hear there may be an opening at Team Obama, Treasury Secretary.

He is quite clever about exposing absurdities in our politics, as is Jon Stewart. I enjoy both their shows. I don't blame Comedy Central for being hush-hush about the private life of Mr Colbert, and don't see anything "eery" about him not tweeting during a family crisis.

When you watch the congressional hearings on C-Span you quickly realize several things. The national medias are extremely negligent in getting the real issues at hand out and many "government elected" officials are quite lacking in communicative skills. Yesterdays exchange between Paul Ryan and Jeffrey Zientz regarding the proposed budget and its "true deficit reduction" was great comedy. Unfortunately, it wasn't meant to be.

Forget CoMeDy CeNtRaL. Watch C-Span. Be prepared to finally realize Obama is a great talker and that gift is why he is president. There are many "behind the scenes" people who are not. I guess government needs both. The Republican party has great communicators behind the scene. What they discuss is very, very dangerous, complicated, and important. This is not a funny world.

Obama is a talker, not a doer and that is his biggest problem. His second biggest problem is that he is a liar. The only people who are dumb enough to listen to his lies or left-wing nutcases. I will be glad to see him defeated in the next election and sent back to his Muslim roots wherever that may be.

I agree norm... he's a politician hence his lies, cheap talk, telling folks what they want to hear, etc. will most likely get him re-elected, not his poor assed, record of failure.

But I have to ask why you believe the day may have come for engineers, banker, scientists and generals are in positions of leadership? I look around and all I see are smooth talking politicos... on all sides of the fence.

Trouble with that is, he can't run in the "next election", so you'll never get the satisfaction. But you could buy gold and guns for 4 more years, keep fantasizing that Sara Palin actually winked at YOU, worry about those poor people making over a Million $'s being persecuted, see Nazi-Socialist-Muslim-Facist-... running around destroying your myopic view of America, and lament the gays, pregnant teens, illegal immigrants, and unemployed deadbeats. It should keep you busy and happily mired in your sorry skin.

We also don't fear teenage pregnancy. It will look great on your daughter. We just hope her "Baby Daddy" pays for some of the expenses. You will love your new son in law. You take my breath away. The first Conservative to proffer a reasoned argument. Guess I've been tainted by immediate name-calling and Limbaugh-parroting by every other reply I've had. If the Republican Party could be taken back by such people as you, we could once again have reasoned debate, intelligent compromise, and maybe (dare I say it).....a Gov OF the people, BY the people, and FOR the people once again.
As for your philosophy, I agree. Get the Tea-bagger Republican legislators to act responsibly, instead of getting the US gov credit rating downgraded, we'll have a Great Debate.

Alright, I was "lurking" in the shadows watching you two trade thoughts. In the end I realized that at least three of us here on Soda Head can agree on several things. I'm guessing there's many more than just the three of us though.

For the record PDS I was also going to suggest you take a step back, catch your breath and try not to be so "knee jerk" in your response to DaleHogue. Like most everyone on here I'm not a fan of politicos who play us however they can... repubs, dems, libs, cons, progressives, etc. So see, I tend to side with most camps on some things at least.

In the end I vote for the person not their political affiliation. Because of that most of the time my vote doesn't add up to much because sadly, I'm in the minority.

The sheep usually win out.

I looks like it was due to an illness in the family, his mother, age 91, is ill, and like a good son Mr Colbert dropped everything to be by her side. I wish her well, and applaud Mr Colbert.

A simple press release would have sufficed. Asking people to respect the family privacy would be made known. Trouble is, the press and media he also works for are as vulturous as he is, so the request would be...ignored? Funny how that works. He is fearing his own kind.

I have two sons both working in the television news and entertainment business. One as a producer, the other a director. The anchors and personalities shown on the screen are puppets reading teleprompters. Even the "ad libs" are written. Without make-up, writers, and coaches, they are not much to talk about as people. As my son says every morning, "Let's create that thing called Show Biz-America is waiting" Peace. You meet them, you will be unimpressed. Unless you like ego maniacs.

Yeah he always seemed to respect his mother. Every once in a while genuine moments peek through the "character" and certain talking about his mother usually were such moments.

What is so unusual or noble about that. Anyone would go to be with their mother if she was on her death bed. Drug addicts, conmen, and mobsters would do that. I wish the family well (if that is the case) but that is hardly worthy of some kind of admiration.
