The Bowl Championship Series Is No Longer: Happy or Horrible?

Waste of money and time.

This is college football where the athletes are to be students first. The obcession with championships is just plain wrong.

Its funny. When the BCS first came around I was thrilled to finally get a championship game for college football. But hindsight indicates that it would have been better to hold a plus one addition to the system they had set up. Keep the regular season and the high bowl games and then determine a championship game based on whos 1 and 2 after that.

Mathematicians laughed at the BCS "formulas". Only one of the several formulas was actually "known" to the public and that formula was shown to have miscalculated on a number of occasions. And of course you had numerous other equations that even the people running the BCS didn't know how they worked. Thats a joke.

This is a great start. Top four teams picked by a selection committee.

What I'd like to see eventually is for college football to whittle down to 4-6 conferences with 12-16 teams in each. Playoffs would start with those conference champions and then you take those and add a few "wild cards" to get up to 8 total teams.

But this 4 team set up is better than the BCS as it is.

Frankly my dear I don’t give a damn.

A four team playoff is not nearly enough to represent the best of college football and will still simply crown the elites. We need about 16 teams to make it legit.

"A selection committee will select the four teams in the playoffs..." Therein lies the problem with this plan. A better plan would be letting the leaders of the 3 major religions pick the teams.

Does this mean no more Rose Bowl? or Suger Bowl? or Cotton Bowl?

Those become rotating playoff sites to get to the Championship game. Remember when the BCS started and instead of a BCS Championship game by itself they rotated the bowl so the Four "BCS" Bowls served as the Championship game? Its like that. So one year the Rose Bowl and the Suger Bowl will be where 1 meets 4 and 2 meets 3. A week later they'll have an independently bid out Championship game.

Playoffs, YES! THAT would be fair.

THERE WILL STILL BE "BOWL SEMI-FINALS,"..AND AFTER THAT THE FOUR BEST TEAMS WILL PLAY FOR "NATIONAL CHAMPION." ...A LONGER SEASON, BUT IT WILL BE EXCTING!

Unless they changed it from last night there will be two Bowl Semi finals and then the two teams emerging will advance (not four) to a championship game. It's not my preference but it's a start.

There will only be two bowl semi finals and the winners of those two games (2 teams) will then play for the National Championship. There will not be 4 teams playing after the bowl semi finals. There will be only one game after the Bowl semifinal games and that will be the championship game.

The BCS is BULLS**TE! The most biased system in college football.

At this point I'm going for horrible, maybe later down the road I'll see things differently.

With a "selection committee", politics still play a huge roll in this total farce.

For a second, I thought it was talking about some championship for who makes the best bowls. Then I realized it was only football. Then I got sad.

Playoffs could be a good thing.

Could be a good thing I agree but I don't think 4 teams is a deep enough field.

Very happy! Wish they had more teams in the play-offs though. At least 8, 16 even better. But I'll take it!

No more co-champs, no more what ifs, no more "well their schedule was a lot easier, so they don't deserve to be #1". It's now the way it should be.

How about an option for "meh." I mean, the complaining will still happen and teams will still get cheated out of the 3rd and 4th seeds, but at least the top 2 teams will always have a legitimate shot.

We should have had a playoff twenty years ago. I don't understand it. FCS and division 3 can do it. Sometime tradition got to fall to waste side.

There are still several holes in it but its a big step in the right direction.
