'Teen Mom' Amber Portwood Picks Prison Over Rehab: Would You Rather Go to Prison or Rehab?

Back in December, "Teen Mom" star Amber Portwood managed to get out of a five-year jail sentence by agreeing to complete a drug rehab program, but last week in court she told a judge that she couldn't finish it. She agreed to go to prison instead. She told ABC News, "In my situation, I felt in the program there were a lot of eyes on me. And it was very uncomfortable. I was not using my anti-psych medication even."

Portwood's legal trouble began in 2010, when she was charged with three felonies for hitting her ex-fiance Gary Shirley in front of their daughter. She managed to get off with two years of probation, but violated her probation when she got in a fight and was found with prescription medication that she didn't have a prescription for. She also attempted suicide on a few occasions. So, this whole ordeal has got us wondering. If you were in Amber Portwood's shoes -- which, for your sake, we hope you aren't -- would you pick prison or rehab?

What he saying is true. If you ever knew an addict that had been in prison, they will tell you that the drugs in prison are better than the drugs on the street. I knew one and he said that all the time, which is probably why he kept going back to prison. It's not the place to be if you really want to kick the habit.

Well, having kicked a 10 year heroin habit, and been in men's shelters on the Bowery and numerous institutions, I guess I'm a little more able to answer that one. See, I not only knews plenty of people that kicked scag; I'm one of them. I'm clean 31 years. Free from smoking 4 pack of pall malls a day 25 years. I know habit kicking.

Yes, I sure you do. But you didn't kick it in prison. I volunteer at a homeless shelter that has a wonderful program for drug and alcohol addictions. My husband kicked the booze in a treatment facility. My son kicked his crack addiction in a long term treatment facility. Two step children when through a treatment facility for alcohol addition. Even my deceased mother in-law went through a treatment facility specifically for the elderly. I know habit kicking too.

I've been working in the prison system for almost 20 years. It's a sad fact. You get sentenced 5 years with a non aggravated case and you'll do less than a year.

True, my son had a friend that was addicted to drugs, he was in and out of prison all the time. He said that the drugs in prison were better than the drugs on the street.

She hinted numerous times on the show that she would rather go to prison so it's really no surprise that's where she is now.

The inmates of that prison will chew her up and spit her out and she will deserve every second of it.

I think this decision was based on pure selfishness and arrogance. Sadly ignorant.

If she didn't like the attention in rehab, she sure won't like it in prison.

Amber Portwood have some issues because she know that she's going to continue to use drugs. She thinks after doing prison time it will be easy, wrong answer young lady. You will have a prison number for the rest of your life, that number will hinder you from getting decent jobs and everything that positive in life. You will be a convictive felony and your life will go down hill, you think you have problems now. It's only the beginning if you go to prison, think about your child and stop being so selfish. Do what is right and go into "Rehab" and get the help that you need! "Prison is not the solution"!

She doesn't want to have to shape up and become a productive part of society. She'd rather live off the rest of us in prison. Moocher scum......

Having people tell me my mind is unhealthy, would make my mind unhealthy.

Keep that evil away from me, at least in prison evil is in something I can hold.

I'll laugh if she has to attend rehab while in prison. That'll get her to realize that she screwed herself over. At least on your own you're free to do what you want during the times you're not in rehab.
