'Teen Mom' Amber Portwood Picks Prison Over Rehab: Would You Rather Go to Prison or Rehab?

Back in December, "Teen Mom" star Amber Portwood managed to get out of a five-year jail sentence by agreeing to complete a drug rehab program, but last week in court she told a judge that she couldn't finish it. She agreed to go to prison instead. She told ABC News, "In my situation, I felt in the program there were a lot of eyes on me. And it was very uncomfortable. I was not using my anti-psych medication even."

Portwood's legal trouble began in 2010, when she was charged with three felonies for hitting her ex-fiance Gary Shirley in front of their daughter. She managed to get off with two years of probation, but violated her probation when she got in a fight and was found with prescription medication that she didn't have a prescription for. She also attempted suicide on a few occasions. So, this whole ordeal has got us wondering. If you were in Amber Portwood's shoes -- which, for your sake, we hope you aren't -- would you pick prison or rehab?

It depends on the prison maybe too. It might be a really low security country club type situation. Maybe she heard that song 1 too many times and said, "no no no..."

There might be more work involved, but your rights are preserved. If you can't put forth the dedication needed to help yourself, then you need outside help, which you are not going to get in prison, or in her case, jail, which are two completely different things.

Better to stay outside, get the help you need, and maintain your rights and freedoms.

Amber has issues that causes her to be so angry and needing to take drugs to mask her true feelings.
Going to prison is NOT going to help her work through these problems, I feel bad for her.
    I hope she gets help : )

Addictions need to be addressed. Addicts do not belong in prisions; they need treatment and then they can have a choice to make the right or wrong decision. If they keep on screwing up, then they need some jail time to think about what ways they can change, but they have to want to. It is essential that they can be in a place for help.

    Personally, rehab. However....

She may feel that this is what she needs to get clean for her daughter.

Rehab doesn't work for some people. Sometimes they need the time in jail to get things put in perspective and get over their hurtles. Sometimes it just takes that level of a reality check to get the wake up call they need. And if she realizes that herself then that's a good thing and a step in the right direction for her.

I wish Amber the best of luck. I've always felt for her from the beginning. May she finally get the help she needs.

I mean I had to choose one but both are bad. When you go to rehab they like watch you I guess its really annoying but prison they treat you worse and u did something bad usually when you go to rehab u just made a wrong decision

Rehab is definitely preferable, because so many people have completed it successfully. With Rehab there is hope. With prison ther is none!

Yeah, there's also a 78% chance that you will get raped or beat in prison by another inmate... My guess is that percentage is considerably smaller in a rehab facility.

There's a reason that people try to get rehab instead of prison when they're caught doing something...

Personally, I don't do any drugs, don't drink and drive, and am not a criminal. Therefore, I shouldn't have to worry about this.
