SLIDESHOW: Best Live Action Movie with a CG Star?

"Ted"

"Ted"

Seth MacFarlane took the top box office spot by delivering raunchy humor through a cuddly teddy bear in “Ted.” The Mark Wahlberg film might be the best live-action film with a CG character ever.

  2. “The Lord of the Rings” Trilogy

“The Lord of the Rings” Trilogy

Considered by some to be the greatest CG character of all time, the “precious” Gollum steals the show in the “Lord of the Rings” movies.

  3. “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows — Part I”

“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows — Part I”

Dobby made his debut in “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.” But it was his moving farewell in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows — Part I,” that secured his position as one of the great CG characters.

  4. “Casper”

    “Casper”

The friendly ghost did what few CG characters before him had been able to achieve: he successfully transitioned from a 2-D drawing to a fully realized 3-D costar.

  5. “Revenge of the Sith”

    “Revenge of the Sith”

Although purists will always prefer the Henson puppet from “The Empire Strikes Back,” there’s no denying that it was sheer joy to see a CG Yoda wielding a lightsaber in “Revenge of the Sith.”

  6. “King Kong”

    “King Kong”

It’s not easy to outshine actors like Naomi Watts and Jack Black, but Peter Jackson’s digital adaptation of King Kong stole the show in his 2005 version of the classic.

  7. “Transformers”

    “Transformers”

Many have tried to turn real toys into hit movies, but Michael Bay is one of the few directors to do it successfully. All the thanks can go to the flawless effects that brought Bumble Bee and Optimus Prime to life.

  8. “Stuart Little”

    “Stuart Little”

The classic children’s book captured the hearts of kids everywhere, who fell for the little mouse in khakis and kicks. And it wasn’t easy for a CG character to be cuter than Jonathan Lipnicki.

This weekend “Ted,” the fuzzy little teddy bear with the foul mouth, dominated the box office. Many people assumed that Matthew McConaughey and Channing Tatum’s male stripper movie “Magic Mike” would be the victor this past weekend. But it seems that audiences would rather watch a wise-cracking plush toy than a bunch of hard-bodied studs.

The raunchy buddy comedy between a man (played by Mark Wahlberg) and his childhood stuffed animal pulled in $54.1 million. Apparently, “Ted” creator Seth MacFarlane of “Family Guy” fame knows something that “Magic Mike” director Steven Soderbergh hasn’t figured out yet — movie fans love a movie with a good CG character in it.

While “Ted” captured audiences this weekend, only time will tell if the flick will join the ranks of the best live action movies with CG characters. Will the teddy bear's career endure like that of Yoda from the “Star Wars” franchise or Gollum from “Lord of the Rings”? Will he go down in film history books alongside Stuart Little and Dobby the House Elf?
One thing is for sure, none of these films would have been as good without the digitally created costars. Click through our slideshow and let us know: What do you think is the best live-action movie featuring a CG character?

the CGI work was just great! transformers is really good too but after awhile the robots start to look the same... Dobby changes frome the first time we see him to the last time we see him. otherwise that CGI was good too!!

King Kong was one of the best movies because it was believable. Ted is a stuffed animal and that movies is unbelievable, you can't wrap your mind around a real person and a talking stuffed animal. The movie should have been animated!

I'm talking about the one back in the 60's. Do you remember? "Mighty Joe Young"? Your talking about the one with "Joe Black" in it and I agree with you totally.

The 60s one was great but It wouldn't count with this question. As king kong was a puppet or something and not CGI

Wow... I seriously hope people are voting on CG quality and not overall film quality...
Sure... Ted, Caspar, Stuart Little... are all cute movies, but seriously? facepalm

The question didn't specify on whether it was the CG quality or the film quality.
People have a reason to vote either way.

True... and I can see now that the majority vote has shifted drastically.
