Technical question for all guitarists that record

OK. After years and years of playing guitar I have decided to put my skills to the test - Recording. I started by hooking up my BOSS ME-25 Multiple Effects Pedal to my PC and recording through Sonar 8.5 Producer Edition. What I was basically doing was importing a backing track as the first track , then creating a new audio track (this would obviously be the track for my guitar). The first cover I attempted to do was Master Of Puppets, couldnt get the sound right, had too much bass, no matter what settings or pre amp I used.

My next step was to to a song that was alot simpler sounding. So I wanted to record a cover of Marilyn Manson`s Sweet Dreams, couldnt get the intro sound right, its clean with a bit of overdrive and reverb, but no matter how I tweaked my settings it just wouldnt work perfectly.

So my next step was to invest in a different input, I bought this Behringer USB DI Box, that uses GR5 - Same Shit as above.
