I would think it stupid being a labelled a "sport" however a game is totally different, it always strikes me as funny when people call the Olympics "the games". Scrabble and Chess isn't a sport in my opinion, so why should computer games?

I don't see why not, Everyone should remember when x-games was never going to be a sport right? Oh and let's not forget skateboarding that wasn't ever going to be a sport either. What about snowboarding, I can go on about what wasn't going to be. I will leave it at that.

Then speed-typing and mouse-clicking should be considered a sport too.

Sports are active. Gaming is nearly purely mental skill.

It is not a sport. It is a game. There is little physical requirement other than mental and digital dexterity. This is not to denigrate games in any way, but let's not get confused here. Sport's generally involve significant physical activity, games do not. There are exceptions.

Another point. These games are sponsored by and in support of the Valve Corporation, owners of Steam. It is a huge marketing campaign for them that brings in thousands of new users and customers each year. They spend a few million dollars and receive many millions of dollars in return.

    It's just business.

I have a feeling one day it may be. Look at all the crap out there that's considered a sport, competitive gaming can be far more challenging than most of those.

Video games are so complex and challenging that there should be treated as such.

Probably not, since for it will never be as traditional as current traditional sports, just due to the time they've been around. However, it might become more popular. I wouldn't really consider chess a sport either but that has a lot of tournaments.

I heard one of the commentators during the Olympics say that Olympic organizers were considering having video game competitions. I don't know if it's true or not

    Unfortunately, no.
It could be considered a traditional hobby though, but considering it a legit sport may be taking it too far :/
That would be cool if it was, I really enjoy video games!

I play video games and love them, but the idea of it being a sport doesn't fit. No physical exertion in it.
