Taylor Swift has been named the most charitable celebrity of 2012 by website DoSomething.org. Largely, this is due to her hugely generous donation of $4 million to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. She also became the youngest-ever recipient of the Robert. F Kennedy Ripple of Hope Award.

But who else has made a difference this year with their charitable efforts? Channing Tatum and Miley Cyrus both worked tirelessly for their chosen charities — the rainforest and dogs! And Selena Gomez worked at children's hospitals all over America as well as raising $200,000 at her annual UNICEF concert.

Apart from the DoSomething.org list, Charlie Sheen gave $75,000 toward the medical bills of a ten-year-old girl with cancer, and his donation was then bested by Stevie Wonder, who gave $100,000.

Hurricane Sandy also brought out a lot of charitable celebrities. Comedian Louis CK had to cancel a show, but he played two more to raise money for the relief effort. And Lady Gaga topped the list of Sandy celebrity donators by giving $1 million to the American Red Cross.

Maybe you should start relating to people who have some substance and character and actually get involved in society and make actually contributions of time, effort as well as money. Bill Gates and Oprah Winfree come to mind with massive amounts of money to go alone with that

Try Bill Gates and Oprah Winfree. They have given hundreds of millions consistantly for decades and established several organizations as well. As well they are actually decent people as well.

The Country Hall of Fame? She won an award for donating to an institution that helps nobody? I recently read a blurb about Denzel writing a check to cover the cost of a military hotel for the families of injured soldiers. The hotels basically allow the families to stay close to the hospitals of their loved ones for little to no cost. If it's true, this is an example of a TRUE charitable donation. Any of the other celebs mentioned here is a more noble donation than that of Swift. I'm not saying it wasn't, you know, a nice thing to do, but it wasn't award-worthy.

Agreed. Charity is just a cover up for greediness but if you really have to be so "money-money-money" person, put your money into good use.

She's always been my favorite when it comes to charities because she helps real kids. All the time... Even if she's busy. One of my few idols!

But the person who donated the most money in the 2000's is micheal Jackson. He donated over 20 billion dollars to charities all over the world. Now he deserves praise even if he already is on heaven.^.^

you raised is different to donate...raise is something that people put together and is counted is one thing. But donate is something that is yours alone something you earned yourself...

Elvis Presley is my favourite generous celebrity. Imagine walking past the local Cadillac dealership and seeing The King arriving for his latest spending spree. When you admire his own Cadillac, he leaves and comes back with a set of keys for a Cadillac he just bought for you. That really happened in July 1975 for Memphis bank teller Mennie Person.

absolutely right. Another one is Obrah Winfree. The Oprah Winfrey Foundation has total assets of a whopping $172 million. Just last year, Winfrey parked some $36 million of her own money in the Foundation, which in turn distributed $8 million to numerous educational, arts and medical groups.

I love Taylor Swift donating as much as she did, but seriously - every single other person on this list actually donated their money to a cause or person that genuinely needed it. I don't think the CM HoF is even remotely in that same league.

Generosity is basically the amount of the contribution. That said, Taylor and the rest of these celebs give from a vast amount of wealth. Real charity is given out of sacrifice, and I don't believe any of these celebs felt any pain to their bank accounts. You want a real celeb that blows all these away? Sean Penn. look at his efforts in Haiti.

Stevie Wonder's been around the longest, and has therefore contributed the
most. Having children and even grandchildren of his fans also becoming his
fans themselves, he has become a legend in his own time, and, as such, has
gone to great lengths to take his responsibility for proper social stewardship,
well....very responsibly. And THAT's a major part of what makes him as great
    as he is.

Money wist Taylor Swift tops the list. All of them are good people doing what they can to help others. I didn't see any of them donating to out of country causes. I think that the big buck donators like Bill Gates and Warren Buffett should keep the money in the United States.
