Given that "Hunger Games" fans tend to be on the young side, we're not sure how many of them can afford to spend almost $1,000 on a piece of jewelry. Nevertheless, a $999 Mockingjay pin will go on sale exclusively at Target.com later this month, to coincide with the DVD release of the movie, USA Today reports.

mockingjay pin

Along with the 14-karat gold replica of heroine Katniss Everdeen's Mockingjay pin, with 100 available at $999 each, Target will also sell other "premium items" beginning on Aug. 18, including leather replicas of Katniss' hunting jacket, with 100 available at $349 each, and "The Hunger Games" lithographs autographed by cast members including Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson, with 100 available for $699 each.

For those of us in the 99 percent, Target is also offering a deluxe edition of "The Hunger Games" in DVD ($20.99) and Blu-ray ($25.99), featuring a collectible case and 45 minutes of exclusive content, USA Today reports. Would you spend almost one grand on a Mockingjay pin, even if you could afford it?

I always thought so, but I never dared say it otherwise my extreme band-wagoning friends might have killed me.

Um, I'm not one to bash people's choices but why the hell did you get one if you dislike the Hunger Games?

There are plenty of replicas for a decent price that look exactly like the real thing. Even if I were rich I wouldn't buy it.

It will probably be totally forgotten in 50 years. The books were ok, but they were no Lord of the Rings.

I loved the books with a passion, and I liked the idea of the mockingjay. But the movie was horrible, tasteless, and a joke. Most of the reason I loved the books so much was for the emotion and story behind the characters. The movie didn't focus on that, and did not portray the characters correctly. I didn't even cry when *SPOILER* Rue died, and when that came up in the book I sobbed my eyes out. Seriously, I've seen fan-made videos that were better.

I would think it was a waste of money and I couldn't tell you what the difference between karats, but I suppose that since the price of gold is around $1600.00 an ounce (give or take) it is probably "worth" it if you're into that sort of thing.

I'm a HUGE hunger games fan (I even spent $50 on a tribute jacket) I've spent my fair share of pay checks on a lot of things having to do with THG but I will NEVER EVER EVER in a million years spend 300-1000 bucks on something like that! I got a perfectly fine Mockingjay Pin off of Amazon for $4.76, it's hypoallergenic and real metal and sturdy. That's all I need.

The only way I'd spend 1000 bucks on anything having to do with THG is if they gave me the whole cast for a week! hypoallergenic real metal sturdy spend 1000 bucks thg cast week
