Given that "Hunger Games" fans tend to be on the young side, we're not sure how many of them can afford to spend almost $1,000 on a piece of jewelry. Nevertheless, a $999 Mockingjay pin will go on sale exclusively at Target.com later this month, to coincide with the DVD release of the movie, USA Today reports.

mockingjay pin

Along with the 14-karat gold replica of heroine Katniss Everdeen's Mockingjay pin, with 100 available at $999 each, Target will also sell other "premium items" beginning on Aug. 18, including leather replicas of Katniss' hunting jacket, with 100 available at $349 each, and "The Hunger Games" lithographs autographed by cast members including Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson, with 100 available for $699 each.

For those of us in the 99 percent, Target is also offering a deluxe edition of "The Hunger Games" in DVD ($20.99) and Blu-ray ($25.99), featuring a collectible case and 45 minutes of exclusive content, USA Today reports. Would you spend almost one grand on a Mockingjay pin, even if you could afford it?

As much as I love the Hunger Games Trilogy and am a fan of it, I wouldn't waste my money on something tiny that I would probably never wear.

The Hunger Games suck. Anybody who would spend that much money on something like that is just stupid.

If made with real material. I am not a die hard fan of the Hunger Games, but if it had been something relating to anime then I would save up 1,000 dollars to buy it. Die hard fans are awesome until they start to gloat about how much they know. "I've read all three books and a day, so I know more than you." That is the reason why I don't like these things!

Nope, I don't see any value in a stupid gold pin I would never wear. If I was a fan, I would be happy with a stainless steel replica.

If this pin instead featured an icon that somehow beautifully incorporated Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, and cats... I STILL wouldn't buy it for $999!

    Tis an unjustified waste indeed.

Before I read the part about them being 14-karat gold, I was thinking, "These better be made of f---ing gold or I'll do a magic trick. I'll make my faith in humanity vanish into thin air!" But seriously, why wouldn't they make it out of less expensive material? Or better yet, put the price at one dead squirrel! XD

That was exactly what I was going to post!! Except instead of ''and I like LOTR" I probably would have used the words "and I was totally and indecently obsessed with LotR at the time those rings came out". I STILL love LotR, but it doesn't dominate my thoughts like it did in high school. ;)

Although I love LOTR it is long winded and laborious, I prefer Star Trek and Stargate.

Apart from D&D and Warhammer 40K i never got into the whole fantasy genre.

We are like the two sides of the same coin - kind of.

No matter HOW hard I try (and I really have) to enjoy sci-fi my brain just... shuts down. I can't concentrate in the face of over-whelming amounts of metal and monochrome shades. My friends swore I'd like Firefly. Nope. And the story of Star Trek appeals to me greatly so it's a shame.

Fantasy on the other hand - I BREATHE fantasy.
